Pedestrian-actuated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) signage have been installed in several different locations around town over the last few years.

The purpose of the RRFBs is to draw more attention to a pedestrian as they cross the street. Research suggests that RRFBs can increase motorist yielding rates and reduce pedestrian crashes.

Here's a short demonstration video on how to properly navigate these crossings for both pedestrians and drivers.

𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐕𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞/𝐏𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭

On April 16th at 7:46 am the Marshall Police Department responded to a vehicle/pedestrian accident at the intersection of East Main Street and A Street. Today’s accident is a reminder for everyone to be more mindful of pedestrians using crosswalks in our area. Crosswalks exist to provide a safe place for our citizens and children to cross the street, yet too often drivers fail to slow down, or notice those who are attempting to cross the road.

As traffic patterns change in our community due to construction, please remember to approach crosswalks with caution. Slow down, stay alert, and always yield to pedestrians. Creating a safer community starts with small, responsible actions. Respecting crosswalk laws will help prevent accidents and ensure that everyone feels safe traveling through our streets.

Thank you for your commitment to keeping our community safe.

We would like to encourage all Marshall residents to sign up for the new RAVE Alert and Smart 911 system for emergency alerts within Lyon county. This replaces the CodeRed system previously used which has been discontinued recently.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is rolling out our new emergency notification system. This system will be used for weather alerts along with other emergency notifications that need to be sent out, such as winter parking, water main breaks, or shelter in places. These notifications can be sent through multiple different avenues: phone call, text message, or email.

We are partnering with RAVE Alert and Smart 911 for our notification system. The are a few different options to sign-up. You can scan the QR code on the photo, the one with the t-rex, go to the website, https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=lyonmnus, or you can text LYON to 226787.

At the log-in page, you will be able to add your phone, email, and address into the website for your profile. Your address will be used for when we need to notify you based on narrow location instead of all of Lyon County.

RAVE Alert is taking place of CodeRED. CodeRED was compromised by a hack late last year and we are not longer able to send the necessary notifications through CodeRED.

Our first public notification will take place on this Wednesday for the first Wednesday of the month testing. If you have any questions on how to sign-up, please contact Sergeant Adam Connor.

Recently a video was shared on social media related to a criminal case involving the Marshall Police Department with a false narrative that alleged misconduct by our police officers. The allegations being made are not true. I have the utmost confidence in the professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards of all our officers. We appreciate our community and the support they have shared.

The City of Marshall’s Department of Public Safety received a philanthropic gift from the Taylor Family Farms Foundation to help fund the purchase of an inflatable rescue boat. This rescue boat will enhance our ability to conduct water rescues, improve public safety, and better serve our community during emergencies. The $11,000 Taylor Family Farms Foundation gift was matched by local donors and the Marshall Fire Relief Association. A heartfelt thank you to Glen Taylor, the Foundation and other donors for investing in the safety of our community.
