Asphalt Work - Summit St (Valley View Rd to 21st St) - Starting Thursday, 05/14/26

Beginning Thursday, May 14, 2026, an asphalt maintenance project will be underway on Summit St between Valley View Road and N 21st St. The following impacts are anticipated (weather permitting):

~Beginning Thursday, May 14th, 2026, the roadway will be milled. During this time there will be uneven surfaces, bumps, and utilities that will be coned off and require vehicles to travel around.
~Beginning Friday, May 15th, 2026, asphalt will be placed. During this time there will be uneven surfaces, bumps, and utilities that will be coned off and require vehicles to travel around. This may extend into Monday, May 18th, 2026.
~Pavement marking will follow at a later date.

During these operations, there will be times that traffic control is in place restricting the roadway to one lane and during active operations, flaggers will be directing traffic between Valley View and 21st St. Traffic should expect delays.

N 27th St and N 22nd St will also be closed at the Summit St intersections.

We encourage motorists to plan accordingly, expect delays, and recommend those able to use the alternative route of 330/Marsh Ave to Main St Rd to 13th St.

Thank you for your patience during this joint project between Marshall County and the City of Marshalltown.

Marshalltown has an opportunity waiting to be filled, and we want your help identifying the people who could bring it to life!

The Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Marshalltown, Arts + Culture Alliance, and Marshalltown Central Business District are working together in the Recast Leaders Cohort to explore new ways to support small-scale makers and creative entrepreneurs in downtown storefronts.

We want to connect with the people already creating amazing things in our community who may be ready for the next step. So, tell us, who would you LOVE to see in a downtown storefront someday!?

Center St Viaduct - closed means closed! As additional work gets underway, including the removal and replacement of a section of the viaduct to allow for reconfiguring the deck drain, please respect the closure. This means all vehicles, bikes, wheelchairs, and pedestrians. It is closed for your safety as the Contractor removes an entire section out of the bridge. We don't need nor want any General Lee's out there.

Thank you for your continued patience as the city invests in repairs on this critical infrastructure in our community.
