Rodrigo began his successful journey in high school. His school had a Transition Alliance Program (TAP) which helped him connect to Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services. While he was in school, he participated in a number of work experiences and then moved on to paid work folding silverware for a local restaurant. VR and TAP always talked to his parents about post high school options so they could determine what would be the best route for him. Rodrigo and his parents decided on the Project Search program, a partnership between VR and North Scott High School where students learn job skills through performing various positions to help them determine their long term career goal.
Rodrigo started the program and after the first 9 weeks, his skills took off. He began to work in logistics and did so well, that they offered him a position. He fills in when someone is out, but when a position opens he will move right in.

🚛 Success Story Spotlight: Waylon

After an unexpected layoff, Waylon turned to IowaWORKS in Ottumwa for support—and took full advantage of every opportunity available to him. Through the RESEA program, he was connected to WIOA services, where he worked with Career Planner, Miranda, to create a plan for success.
With guidance, financial assistance for training, and support every step of the way, Waylon completed his Class A CDL through Indian Hills Community College.
In March 2026, Waylon reached his goal—starting a new career as a night shift truck driver.
