The Division of Marine fisheries Approves the addition of 18+ acres of Recreational Shellfishing in the South River.

Attached you will see the Division of Marine Fisheries new classification for the area in the South River known as MB 6.0 & 6.1.
What does this mean? Essentially, after additional years of stringent water quality testing year-round in conjunction with the professional DMF staff! Both Marshfield & Scituate can enjoy the addition of the newly added 18 plus acres area noted in "Yellow" on the attached map. The newer maps will be updated very soon.

We wanted to give everyone an early start to harvest starting tomorrow morning at sunrise. This has been a longtime in the making and the staff from the DMF has been great to work with on this project. Today we completed the 2025 seasonal shellfish seeding/propagation program in the North & South rivers with 50,000 1/2 inch quahogs grown all Spring & Summer at Island Creek aquaculture farm in Duxbury, Ma. These native grown quahogs will be legal size in 12-18 months.

Thank you Island Creek for helping to support the recreational shellfishing efforts for the Towns of Marshfield & Scituate.

Great News from the USCG! The USCG will not be removing any aids to navigation after overwhelming feedback from many boaters (over 3,200) in the USCG First District (NE Region).

Ridge Road Boat Ramp Project Update Oct. 6th. 2025

The Ridge Road boat ramp (South River), is currently out to bid for new construction of a grooved concrete boat ramp pad, the addition of 130 linear feet of docks on the Southern side of the ramp, minor grading, asphalt repaving, ADA compliant docks, passive recreation access for paddle crafts, public viewing area with 2 benches as well as some coastal beach plantings.

The Harbormaster department will provide a 30-day notice of ramp closure, once we are under contract. Until then the ramp will remain OPEN. This work will be completed prior to the Spring boating season of 2026. Marshfield Police DepartmentTown of Marshfield, MA.@

We have added a new "Step Down" launching platform to the Damon's Point dock system. The lowered step down will allow for safer access/egress of passive recreation paddle crafts (Lifejackets, please!).

Funding was provided by the Marshfield Community Preservation Act.
