My wife and I have 6 children. Four are grown and out of the K12 system. We have two children in school. I have been in education most of my life. I am a trained Geographer and Environmental Scientist. My undergraduate degree is in Geography and Resource Development and has a minor in the Study of Religions. My graduate degrees are in Environmental Science (Masters) and Geography (Ph.D.). I was a
professor and administrator in higher education from 1998 to 2019. I currently work in Oncology Research. I am willing to work with everyone - from every walk of life and the whole political spectrum as long as the outcome is for the benefit of our constituents - our students, first and foremost; then our parents; our teachers, and our community! In this era of political polarization, it is important to take a step back and talk to everyone. Not just those who agree with you politically. My bottom line is this: I have no personal agenda. I go into this campaign and, hopefully to the school board with an open mind. I will always help make decisions based on three principles:
1. Is it in the interest of our students?
2. Is it fiscally responsible?
3. Is it the best course of action based on available data? Why am I running for a seat on the school board? I believe that as a parent and an educator, my voice would be a welcome addition to the board. I bring the perspective of a parent who has lived on 3 continents, with a vast wealth of experience in education. I know the value of education and I know what it takes to not only make tough decisions but what makes for good education. I have experience in management, having been a department chair, associate dean and dean. I have made tough decisions and understand the behind-the-scenes discussions that take place before difficult decisions are made. How can you help make this campaign successful? Stay tuned.
