Ventress Memorial Library

Ventress Memorial Library Ventress Memorial Library is the public library for Marshfield, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1895 and moved to its current location in 1983.

We are the public library for Marshfield, MA. We are closed from December 16, 2022-February 2023 while the library undergoes a major carpet renovation and asbestos removal. Patrons may still use their cards to borrow materials from other OCLN libraries, and also to borrow from our digital library. For more information, please visit bit.ly/vml-carpets. Ventress Memorial Library was founded in 1895

with funds provided by Seth J. Ventress, a Marshfield resident. The original library, called the Marshfield Free Library, was located in the Town Hall on South River Street. By 1938 the section of the Town Hall used as the Library had become so overcrowded that the library moved to a century renovated school building on Ocean Street and was named for its benefactor. In December 1983, renovations were completed on the former First National grocery building, and the Ventress Library opened in this 19,000 square foot facility.

Good news and bad news! We are getting closer to some shiny new bathrooms at the library! The next step is applying new flooring, and to do that safely, we will need to close the children's room this Wednesday and Thursday. We will have some kids' materials available in the main library for checkout, but we won't be able to access other items in the room.
