Alcohol & drug use affects every sector of society, straining our economy, our healthcare & criminal justice systems, & endangering the futures of young people. The Weakley County Prevention Coalition has served the community for over 30 years by providing drug and alcohol education and prevention activities within and outside the area school system and promoting healthy and prosperous lifestyles and choices among its citizens.

Our lovely ROPS, Melesa, who is also a Registered Nurse, led a CPR training with our Camp Thrive Staff today!

We are excited to welcome our Camp Thrive Students next week for the THIRD year in a row! Our staff is preparing for a great summer with lots of learning and enrichment!

The first step to a great learning environment is safety, which is why we are so glad our staff was able to participate in this training today!

Thank you, Melesa, for sharing your time with us and teaching us these life saving skills!

We would like to wish a heartfelt congratulations to our Gleason School Sponsor, Mrs. Amy Lawrence, on her retirement!

Thank you, Mrs. Amy, for all you have done! Not just for WCPC, but for Weakley County Schools. Your hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed!

We will miss having you as a part of Youth Coalition, but we hope you enjoy this well deserved retirement! ❤️

This week we said goodbye to two wonderful ladies who have dedicated many years of service to Gleason School. Mrs. Melissa Terrell taught Kindergarten at Gleason School for 20 years, 1 year in 1st grade, and the last 10 years as the Art Teacher, also serving other schools in Weakley County. Mrs. Amy Lawrence began her teaching career with 8 years as a Kindergarten teacher at McKenzie Elementary before being the Librarian at Gleason School for the last 24 years.

We would like to say congratulations to Mrs. Melissa and Mrs. Amy as they begin their retirement and next adventures! Mrs. Amy looks forward to seeing students in the fall as she will transition to working in Kids Club after school with Mrs. Sherri.

Starting summer off on a sweet note with our first Youth Summer Kickback! 🍦

Our ice cream social last night had such a great turnout, and it has us even more excited for the rest of our summer series — both youth and community events!

We got to meet new students, see familiar faces, and most importantly, promote healthy, substance-free fun for teens in Weakley County.

If you missed this one, don’t worry — we have plenty more opportunities coming this summer!

Happy Graduation Day to our THRIVE Youth Coalition seniors! 🎓

Today, we celebrate an incredible group of young leaders who have used their voices, stepped outside their comfort zones, and made a real impact in their schools and communities. We are so proud of all they have accomplished and the growth we’ve had the privilege to witness along the way.

Your passion, leadership, and dedication to making a difference have helped shape THRIVE, and we know this is only the beginning. No matter where life takes you next, carry your voice boldly and continue creating change.

Congratulations, seniors — your future is bright, and we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way 💙💚

We had a great time at the Dresden Middle School Career Fair yesterday!

We were able to promote our organization to students, encouraging them to get involved and make healthy choices.

We also had the pleasure about discussing our paths to prevention work, our educational backgrounds, and answering questions about the work we do.

It was truly a blast to spend the day with you, DMS! Thanks for including us! 💛🖤

Job shadowing today with one of our Youth Coalition students!

8th grader Raegan joined us through Martin Middle School’s job shadowing opportunity because of her interest in the field of Social Work. She spent the day with Weakley County Prevention Coalition, where our Youth Engagement Coordinator, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, was able to share firsthand how social work and prevention intersect through youth-focused community work.

Throughout the day, Raegan learned how prevention connects to social work, heard from our UTM Social Work interns about their college journey and experiences in the field, and explored different career paths through agency visits coordinated to give her a broader perspective on the profession.

A huge thank you to Weakley / Obion Carl Perkins Center, WRAP - RCP, and Parents as Teachers UTM for taking time to spend with us today, share your knowledge, and help give Raegan a deeper look into the many paths within social work and helping professions.

We love creating opportunities for youth to explore their passions and future possibilities. Prevention work is deeply rooted in connection, advocacy, and meeting people where they are, and today was a great example of how many different ways that mission can come to life. We are so proud of Raegan for taking this step and investing in her future.
