⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE TODAY ⚠️

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to impact the Mid-South throughout the day today, Wednesday, August 26. Some storms may become severe, with damaging winds as the primary threat. Large hail and heavy rainfall are also possible.

Forecast timing, intensity, and exact locations remain uncertain, so conditions could change throughout the day.

Now is the time to prepare:
🌩️ Stay aware of changing weather conditions
📱 Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and warnings
🏠 Know where you will take shelter if a warning is issued
🪑 Secure loose outdoor items and move away from windows during severe weather

The key points from the graphics are:

* Heat: Heat index values around 105°F+ are possible across parts of the Mid-South Wednesday.
* Severe weather: Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for portions of the region.

On Friday, August 14, at approximately 4:56 p.m., the City of Martin Fire/EMS was dispatched to a structure fire with a report that someone might still be inside the residence. All three stations responded to the scene.

Upon arrival of the first company, crews found heavy fire and smoke showing from the residence. Fortunately, all occupants had safely evacuated the home. Once the fire attack was initiated, Command requested mutual aid from the Union City, Sharon, and Dresden Fire Departments due to the size and intensity of the fire along with heat index over 100.

Firefighters remained on scene for nearly two hours working to extinguish the fire and ensure the area was safe. No injuries were reported.

☀️DANGEROUS HEAT WAVE CONTINUES ☀️

A dangerous heat wave will continue through the weekend, with heat indices reaching or exceeding 110°F through Sunday. An Extreme Heat Warning is now in effect across the area through 8:00 PM Sunday.

🔥 Friday–Sunday
Heat indices above 109°F are expected throughout the weekend. Prolonged exposure to this level of heat can greatly increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially for outdoor workers, children, older adults, and other vulnerable individuals.
🌙 Very little overnight relief
Overnight temperatures will remain in the upper 70s to low 80s, providing minimal relief from the heat.
⚠️Monday and Beyond
A weak cold front will move through the Mid-South Monday and may reduce the area covered by the Extreme Heat Warning. However, dangerous heat is expected to continue through at least the middle of next week.
💧 Stay Safe
• Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
• Limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the hottest part of the day
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
• Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle
• Check on family, friends, neighbors, and those who may be especially vulnerable to the heat
