The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is game-day ready for Super Bowl LX. With this year’s big game headed to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on February 8, the CHP urges fans across the state to make smart, responsible decisions – whether attending the game in person, heading to a watch party or celebrating at home.

The CHP will help keep our roadways safe this Super Bowl Sunday by increasing patrols to promote public safety for motorists, residents, and visitors participating in the festivities.

Drivers are reminded to obey speed limits, always wear a seatbelt, and score a sober ride by designating a sober driver, using a ride-share service or taking public transportation.

To accommodate the influx of people, the CHP recommends motorists plan their routes in advance, know the location of their destination and allow extra time to travel. Be aware that road closures may be in effect in some areas.

To check for closure updates, visit the Bay Area Host Committee’s website (https://www.sfbayareasuperbowl.com/getting-around) for details. Additional real-time traffic information will be shared on X via

You can assist law enforcement by calling 9-1-1 if you suspect a drunk driver. Callers should be prepared to give the vehicle’s description, location, license plate number and direction of travel.

Don’t earn a flag on the play for unsportsmanlike conduct; let’s all work together to keep California’s roads safer.

The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

Say Goodbye to 2025 & Ring in 2026 Safely 🎉

As you take the roads this week and celebrate the New Year, the California Highway Patrol reminds everyone to make safety part of the plan:

✔️ Drive Sober: Never get behind the wheel impaired. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or use a rideshare or public transportation.
✔️ Slow Down: Speeding puts lives at risk. Give yourself extra time and drive responsibly.
✔️ Stay Focused: Distracted driving can be deadly. Put the phone away and keep your attention on the road.
✔️ Buckle Up: Seat belts save lives—every seat, every trip.
✔️ Share the Road: Stay alert for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists, especially during nighttime celebrations.

As we welcome 2026, let’s look out for one another and make it home safely.

Happy New Year and safe travels from the California Highway Patrol!

SOBRIETY AND DRIVER LICENSE CHECKPOINT

MARTINEZ, CA – The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Contra Costa Area will be conducting a sobriety and driver license checkpoint on December 26, 2025, within Contra Costa County.

The goal of the CHP is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist by targeting roads where there is high frequency of intoxicated or unlicensed drivers. A sobriety and driver license checkpoint is a proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations.

Funding for this sobriety checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Stay Safe. Drive Sober.

This Holiday Season, Safety Comes First. 🎄

As families prepare to celebrate the holidays, the California Highway Patrol reminds everyone to prioritize safety on the road. To ensure travelers stay safe this busy season, CHP is launching the first of two statewide Holiday Enforcement Periods (HEPs) this month to reduce traffic incidents by targeting unsafe driving behaviors.

The Christmas HEP begins today, December 24, at 6:01 p.m. and continues until 11:59 p.m. on December 28. During this time, CHP officers will increase patrols across the state to deter dangerous driving behaviors, including impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seat belt violations. The public is also encouraged to report unsafe drivers by calling 9-1-1.

Let’s make safety our top priority this holiday season. Buckle up, drive responsibly, and if you’re celebrating, always plan for a sober ride. Thoughtful choices save lives and keep California’s roads safe for everyone!

Celebrate wisely and drive with care. Together, we can make the holidays safer for all. The CHP’s mission is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to all Californians.
