From the Martins Ferry Police Department, we ask everyone in our community to help keep our students safe as they head back to school! 📚🚌

Please:

* 🛑 Obey all traffic laws
* 🚗 Slow down and watch for students
* 🚌 STOP for school buses when required
* 🚸 Stop for pedestrians at crosswalks
* 🏫 Slow down and use extra caution in school zones
* 👀 Stay alert for children walking, riding bikes, or crossing the roadway

A new school year means more children and families on our roads. Please give yourself extra time, slow down, and stay focused.

🚨 WATER SERVICE UPDATE – MARTINS FERRY 🚨

The City of Martins Ferry is currently without water service until further notice due to a traffic crash that occurred this morning and caused damage to the city’s water system.

City crews are actively working to repair the damage and restore water service as quickly as possible.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while crews work to resolve the issue.

💧 Water service will be restored as soon as repairs are completed.

This is a new law that goes into effect in 90 days. The law was signed by our governor. 

The law requires the driver and passengers of a vehicle pulled over for any moving violation to disclose their names, addresses, and dates of birth to a peace officer upon request.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed Ohio House Bill 492 into law Tuesday.

It is with profound sadness that the Martins Ferry Police Department extends our deepest thoughts and prayers to the family of Sergeant Scott Ries, the members of the Rittman Police Department, and the entire Rittman community during this incredibly difficult time.

We join law enforcement agencies across the State of Ohio in mourning the tragic line-of-duty death of Sgt. Ries, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting his community on Sunday.

His dedication, courage, and selfless service will never be forgotten. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in blue and pray for strength, comfort, and peace for all those affected by this tremendous loss.

Rest in Peace, Sergeant Scott Ries. Your watch has ended, but your legacy of service will endure forever.
