Thirty-two years ago, someone asked our community to dream big. And this community said: watch us!

Organizers went to local agencies with one question: if anything at all could be done, what would you ask for? The answers came back big: building furniture, power-washing buildings, spreading mulch, planting flowers, cleaning parks, lots of painting projects and so much more!

And every single year since, volunteers have shown up and gotten it done!

The 32nd Annual Day of Caring is Tuesday, September 15th and we cannot wait to see what we accomplish this time.

Been on a Day of Caring team before? Tell us about your project in the comments đź’¬
We want to hear about it! 🧡

As a founding member of the Health and Human Services Collaborative, we are grateful for the amazing work being done in each of the Collaborative’s work groups! This month, the Strong and Stable Families Work Group has been busy preparing for a Back-to-School Resource Fair on August 19th. A variety of resources will be available for local families! Thank you to everyone that is participating! United is the Way to create opportunities for our youth!

Do you know ALICE?

ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households earn above the Federal Poverty Level, but less than what it costs to make ends meet in the community where they live.

ALICE may be the person who handed you your coffee this morning. The cashier at your supermarket. Your child's teacher. A police officer. More often than not, they're heading to a second job to cover child care or rent.

Our CEO Penny Porter shares who ALICE may be here in Berkeley, Morgan and Jefferson Counties.

With the WV ALICE Report, you can learn more about your own county. The number of your neighbors living below the ALICE threshold is almost certainly higher than you'd guess. đź’¬

New fiscal year, new chapter. 🎉

This past year, we raised over $1 million and funded 45+ nonprofit programs across Berkeley, Morgan, and Jefferson Counties. We grew Born Learning. We answered thousands of WV211 calls. We stood beside our ALICE neighbors, the ones working hard and still one flat tire away from crisis.

But here's the thing: most people don't actually know the story behind any of it. So this year, we're telling it!

Who is ALICE?
What is WV211?
How does a donated dollar actually become an invested one?
We're answering the questions you've been wondering about United Way.

Too many of our neighbors face hunger every day. Together, we can help. Save the dates and join us from September 15 to October 15 during our annual MEGA Food Drive as we collect food throughout Berkeley, Morgan and Jefferson Counties. Together, we can make sure families throughout the Eastern Panhandle are fed, because United is the Way to a Healthy Community.

If you would like to participate as a drop-off location for the MEGA food drive, message us or contact Nicholas Malin at [email protected]

Last week at our Annual Celebration Breakfast, we shared a new award in recognition and appreciation of outstanding leadership that inspires community service, engagement and philanthropy in the Eastern Panhandle.

The recipient of our Community Leadership in Action Award is an individual that has nurtured a company culture of giving back, that has inspired others with his own volunteerism and that has embraced our United Way partnership.

Thank you, John Shaver at P&G Tabler Station! You lead with inspiration, and we are so grateful for your support of United Way!

Volunteering is at the heart of United Way as we mobilize the caring power of communities to address local needs. Every hour selflessly spent supporting our neighbors has a ripple effect, and we are excited to recognize two individuals who have shared their time and energies in countless ways with United Way of the Eastern Panhandle!

Join us in thanking Don Jacot, our Volunteer of the Year and Jessica Leonard, our Campaign Volunteer of the Year, for their amazing support! Thank you for believing !

đź’™ When any West Virginia community hurts, we all come together.

The devastating flooding in Lewis and Upshur counties has left families facing tremendous loss and uncertainty. Right now, they need the support of neighbors across our state as they begin the difficult journey of recovery.

The West Virginia United Ways have established the Lewis/Upshur Flood Relief Fund to provide direct assistance to individuals and families impacted by the flooding. Every donation will help meet immediate needs while supporting long term recovery efforts.

No gift is too small. 100% of funds donated will be used directly to support neighbors during this time of need. Together, we can remind those affected that they are not facing this alone.
