📚💙 CALLING ALL PARENT & COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS! 💙📚

Do you love books? Do you enjoy spending time with children? Are you looking for a simple but meaningful way to get involved at Spring Mills Primary School?

We’re looking for Parent & Community Volunteers to join the Read Aloud West Virginia program! 📖✨

Our volunteer readers help bring stories to life in our classrooms and encourage our students to develop a lifelong love of reading. The best part? You don't have to be a professional reader or spend hours at school! Volunteers are typically given an hour-long classroom time slot, but the actual reading visit usually takes just 15–30 minutes. ❤️

🌟 NEW VOLUNTEERS
Before being placed with a classroom, new volunteers must complete a one-hour Read Aloud West Virginia New Reader Orientation via Zoom.

📅 September Orientation Dates:
📖 Tuesday, September 8 — 5:00 PM
📖 Thursday, September 10 — 12:30 PM
📖 Tuesday, September 15 — 5:00 PM
📖 Thursday, September 16 — 12:30 PM

If you've previously completed a Read Aloud West Virginia New Reader Orientation, you are already set and do not need to attend another orientation! 🎉

The Spring Mills Primary PTA is so excited to welcome all of our amazing students, families, and staff back for another incredible school year! 💚💛 We can't wait to see everyone at Back-to-School Orientation on Tuesday, August 18th!

📚 Kindergarten: 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM
📚 1st Grade: 5:15 PM or 6:15 PM

🌟 MEET THE BOARD SPOTLIGHT SERIES — FINAL SPOTLIGHT!* 🌟

We’re wrapping up our 2026–2027 Meet the Board Spotlight Series by introducing the person leading our amazing team this year—our PTA President, Mackenzie Kerns! 💚💛

Mackenzie is returning for his 4th year as an officer with Spring Mills Primary PTA, and this year he’s stepping into the role of President! We’re so excited to have his leadership, passion, and dedication guiding our PTA into another incredible school year. ☀️

💬 A message from Mackenzie:
"Hey Sunrays! I'm so excited to be back for my 4th year as an officer with the SMP PTA and even more thrilled to be serving as your President. We've got an amazing team, and I can't wait to work alongside them. I also am the Eastern Regional Director and Secretary for West Virginia State PTA, as well as a member of the National PTA's Legislation Committee.
Instead of teaching first grade this year, I'm joining the specials team as the technology teacher at SMP. I originally got involved with PTA because I love giving back to our school community and helping create awesome opportunities for our students and families to learn, grow, and just have fun. I'm really looking forward to seeing all the great things we have planned come to life this year!"

💚 What does the PTA President do?
As President, Mackenzie helps lead our PTA and keep our team moving toward our shared mission of supporting every child, every family, and our entire school community.

His responsibilities include:
📋 Leading PTA & Executive Committee Meetings — helping guide productive meetings and keep our team focused.
✅ Ensuring Compliance — helping make sure our PTA follows its bylaws, policies, and PTA requirements.
🤝 Building Relationships — strengthening partnerships with our school, families, staff, and community.
📈 Monitoring Progress — keeping an eye on our goals, programs, and initiatives throughout the year.
📣 Representing the PTA — serving as a voice and representative for Spring Mills Primary PTA within our school and community.
And, of course, being there to support our incredible Board of Managers and all of the volunteers who make our PTA possible!

💚 Thank you, Mackenzie, for stepping up to lead our Sunray family! We are so excited to see all the amazing ideas, events, and opportunities you've helped plan come to life this year!
