COVER CROP IS BACK!

We are now accepting applications for the FY27 Cover Crop Program from July 16, 2026 through August 15, 2026.

Eligible participants may receive $50 per acre in cost-share assistance, with funding available for up to 125 acres and a maximum payment of $6,250 per applicant.

Please note:
• Applications will be ranked and approved based on available funding.
• Approved cover crop practices must be completed by Friday, November 13, 2026 to be eligible for payment.
• Payments are expected to be issued in Spring 2027.

IT’S BACK!! Septic Cost-Share in the Sleepy Creek Watershed is OPEN!

Live in the Sleepy Creek watershed in Morgan County? You may be eligible for cost-share assistance through our Section 319 program for:
- Septic system pumping
- Septic system repair

Proper septic maintenance helps protect local water quality, your property, and public health, especially in a watershed that flows directly into the Potomac River.
This program is designed to reduce pollution and keep our streams clean and thriving!
Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Program Details:
• Septic repair: 75% cost-share up to $8,000. If total repair costs exceed $8,000, the homeowner is responsible for the remaining balance.
• Septic pumping: 50% cost-share up to $150. If total pumping costs exceed $300, the homeowner is responsible for the remaining balance.

Big news! Our conservation programs are officially OPEN 🎉

If you’ve been thinking about improving your land, now is the time to apply! We offer cost-share opportunities for practices like:
- lime application
- pasture and hay re-seeding
- heavy use area
- invasive species control
- urban agriculture
- honeybee nucleus colonies

Planning ahead is key to some practices that require soil samples before applying, so don’t wait! Reach out to get started or learn more about what programs might be the best fit for your property.

We’re accepting applications on a rolling basis through April 3, 2027!

The Eastern Panhandle Conservation District (EPCD) will hold its upcoming Local Work Group (LWG) Meeting Local Work Group (LWG) Meeting on Wednesday May 20th at 5:30pm.

The LWG meeting provides a collaborative forum for local landowners, partner organizations, and stakeholders to identify natural resource concerns and help guide USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) conservation priorities within the district. Input gathered during the meeting will help shape program direction and ensure conservation efforts reflect the needs of the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District region.

Thinking about signing up for our upcoming conservation programs? Now is the perfect time to get your soil samples done!

EPCD offers 2 soil sampling services:
- FREE through WVDA (takes about 1-2 months)
- $3 per sample through Waypoint (takes about 2-3 weeks)

Our new program year opens in about a month, and soil samples are required before you sign up for:
- Lime Application
- Hay & Pasture Re-seeding

Need equipment? You can borrow our soil probes and sifters, just reach out to us to get set up.

🌟Important: If you do your sampling yourself, please bring your samples sifted and dried before submission.

Big things are happening for our tiny, winged friends in Jefferson County!

Girl Scout Troop 15099 is taking conservation into their own hands by installing bat boxes to support the little brown bat, an important species facing serious challenges from White-nose Syndrome. These simple structures provide safe roosting spaces and help strengthen local bat populations right here at home.

At our recent board meeting, Troop Leader Angelina Gray shared an incredible presentation highlighting the troop’s hard work and the impact these efforts can have on protecting this vital species. It’s always inspiring to see the next generation stepping up for conservation!

Keep your eyes peeled, you might start spotting bat boxes popping up around Jefferson County soon!

The Appalachian Grazing Conference is held every two years and offers informative presentations and demonstrations to farmers with cattle, goats, and sheep. Participants will hear from America's leading speakers on strategies designed to increase their profits.
This year, the Appalachian Grazing Conference is a multi-location, multi-day event. Events will be held at three locations on different days.

To register and choose which session(s) you wish to attend, please use the registration link found under the "Registration" tab at the link to our website above.
Each site will host a one-day event from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, featuring keynote speakers Allen Williams, John Genho, and Troy Bishopp, as well as local presenters.
