This role supports victims of crime, helps reduce trauma, and plays a key part in ensuring their voices are heard in the justice system. Every day, crimes and acts of violence are taking place in our community. Whether we have witnessed it, been a victim of it, or supported a friend or family member through it, most of our lives have been affected in some way or another by crime.

As we recognize National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, it is important to know that all victims have certain rights available to them. The Henry County Victim/Witness Program is here to ensure that all victims are aware of these rights and that they have an advocate to assist them in dealing with their victimization and the criminal justice process.

Funding cuts are threatening our program - and many others like us across the state. In just 5 years, Virginia's victim service agencies have suffered a 47.5% overall cut in their VOCA funding. At the same time, we have seen an unprecedented increase in victims needing services. These cuts are directly impacting our community and the victims that we serve. The Put Victims First campaign is working towards a statewide fund that will ensure all victims of crime can access the services that they need.
