The one and only Martinsville-Henry County Democratic Committee! MHC Dems are a diverse group of residents coming together over our shared values. We are your neighbors, co-workers, and community members who are working for a better future for everyone. The MHC Democratic Committee represents all of Martinsville City and Henry County. Henry County includes the towns of Collinsville, Bassett, Stanl

eytown, Fieldale, Ridgeway, Axton, Horse Pasture, Spencer, and Chatmoss. The City of Martinsville is in the 9th Congressional District, and beginning in 2024, Henry County also completely in the 9th Congressional Districts. It was previously split with the 5th Congressional District. All of Martinsville and much of Henry County are part of the 48th Virginia House District. Western Henry County is now part of the 39th Virginia House District. The Martinsville Democratic Committee and the Henry County Democratic Committee merged in 2010.

Yesterday Marguerite Johnson-Swann and Nancy Arnold, both members of the MHC Democratic Committee traveled with two Roanoke constituents to Christiansburg, VA to visit with the staff of Morgan Griffith. Their purpose, to deliver a letter on the 61st anniversary of Medicare to our current state representative, Morgan Griffith, requesting Medicare for All. Another one of our members, Pat Pion, delivered her letter to Morgan Griffith's DC office. This was a designated national Medicare For ALL Day of Action. Thank you to our loyal and caring members for their continued efforts, compassion for the people and representation. We are so fortunate and thankful for you all!

Excited to see standing room only tonight for the public hearing on Data Center Zoning! We need a moratorium to properly design zoning and regulations to protect our people and our environment before even considering large facilities like a data center in Henry County!

The Smith Mountain Lake Dems General Membership meeting will be held on Monday, July 27th. 1pm, at 16483 Moneta Hwy, Suite J, Moneta. It will include a presentation on data centers by Tim Cywinski of the Sierra Club. This would be quite the opportunity before the Henry County Board of Supervisors meeting the next evening.

A couple of reminders for our monthly meeting tonight, Tuesday, July 14th!
1. Remember our MHC Democrats meetings have been moved to the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 6pm - come as early as 5:30 if you wish to order food and drinks - at Hugo's 25 Bridge St No. In Martinsville.
2. If possible, please bring your non perishable food items or cash donations for our lunch packing for unhoused individuals in our communities. We will be packing lunches and snack bags and delivering them to Ms. Nancy on August 6th.
