MSD of Martinsville Cell Phone & Personal Device Policy
In accordance with Indiana State Law (SEA 78), Effective July 1, 2026

Policy Information: NO ACCESS FULL SCHOOL DAY (BELL-TO-BELL) All personal communication devices MUST be powered off and inaccessible for the entire school day.

Storage: All students will be expected to store cell phones in a locker for the entire school day.

Prohibited Device List: This ban includes cell phones, smartwatches, headphones, earbuds, tablets, personal laptops, smart glasses, and gaming devices.

Exceptions: Access will still be granted for students with documented medical needs, requirements in an IEP, or 504 Plan

Approved Cell Phone Use: Students will be able to use cell phones on school buses, after school activities.

School Day Communications: School Offices - Families can contact the school front office. StudentSquare - The District will explore StudentSquare, a ParentSquare feature for students in grades 9-12.

Welcome to BIA Mr. Peterson!

Congratulations Mrs. Stremming!

The MSD of Martinsville School Board approved Adam Peterson as the principal and Angela Stremming as the assistant principal of Bell Intermediate Academy for the upcoming school year.
Peterson brings more than 20 years of educational experience to his new role. He has recently served as the assistant principal at John R. Wooden Middle School in Martinsville for the past six years and earned his Education Specialist (EdS.) in Educational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University.
“I am beyond excited to be joining the families, students, and staff at Bell Intermediate Academy,” said Peterson. “The year is coming up fast, and we are hard at work getting everything ready to go for this upcoming school year.”
Stremming brings nearly 30 years of experience in education and has served as the Bell Intermediate Academy’s guidance counselor. Her familiarity with the school and commitment to student success will assist in a smooth transition to her new leadership role.
“I am incredibly honored to serve as assistant principal and grateful for the opportunity to support our students, staff, and families in this new role,” said Stremming. “I cannot wait to work alongside our amazing students, staff, and families so every student can thrive and reach their full potential.”

Superintendent Eric Bowlen shared that this new Bell Intermediate Academy leadership team reflects the District’s commitment to a strong direction of instructional growth. “Adam and Angela bring outstanding knowledge of curriculum and professional learning,” said Bowlen. “Together they will excel to create an outstanding team for Bell Intermediate Academy, and I am excited to see this positive impact.”

Students have the opportunity to pick up Chromebooks following the schedule below. If a student does not pick up a device on the date listed below, the device will be distributed throughout the first week of school.

Martinsville High School students - 9th grade ONLY:
Pick up at MHS on August 3, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. and on August 4, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Martinsville High School students who are new to the MSD of Martinsville, in grades 10-12, will have devices distributed with Artie Intel on the first day of school.

John R. Wooden students - NEW students ONLY
Students will be able to pick up their devices on July 29, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., and on August 4, 2026, from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. (Open House).

Bell Intermediate students - 5th grade and NEW students:
Pick up is at Bell Intermediate Academy on July 30, 2026, and July 31, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. This includes new BIA students.

Elementary student devices will be distributed throughout the first week of school.

The MSD of Martinsville will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision for the 2026-27 school year.

This program applies to all MSD students selecting a “tray” meal. All à la carte and single items will still be available for purchase.
