Thanks to Ms Crouch’s Intro to Ag freshman class for helping with the Arbor Day tree program. Canaan Fir seedlings were provided to approximately 200 third graders from Marshall, Martinsville and Casey/Westfield. With the exception of two years during covid times, this is the 31st year seedlings have been provided to County third graders.

(Apologies for the late posting!)

While Lake Land College students were enjoying spring break, the Fieldhouse was taken over by approximately 135 high school students. These students made up 27 teams to participate in the 2026 Land Use Council #7 Envirothon. Students were representing schools from Clark, Champaign, Coles, Edgar, Douglas and Vermilion Counties. Two teams from Marshall and three teams from Martinsville were among the participants from Clark County.

During the event, each team worked together to complete written tests in the areas of Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife and the Current Issue: “Non-point source pollution mitigation: It begins at home!” Teams also had the opportunity to give an oral presentation based on a scenario relating to the Current Issue. The Clark County team giving their oral presentation to the group was Marshall.
In addition to the academic testing, Rick Manor with the Urbana Champaign Sanitary District. Rick spoke about point source pollution and their impact on our drinking water. Lunch was provided for all students, teachers and volunteers.

Winning first and second place among Clark County teams were the Marshall FFA teams. Third place went to the Martinsville team #1. Plaques were presented to the Clark County winners. A variety of awards were also presented to overall and county winners, as well as category winners.

This year’s overall winning team was from Paris High School. The Paris team will compete at the Illinois State Envirothon to be held at the 4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello, Illinois, April 29 & 30. There, they will compete with other Illinois Land Use Council winners for the opportunity to advance to the National Envirothon, which will be held on the campus of Mississippi State University, July 19–25.

The Envirothon is annually sponsored by the SWCDs in Land Use Council #7, and the employees in the Council. This was the 27th year for this event. The Clark County teams were sponsored by the Clark County SWCD.

We congratulate the Clark County teams for a job well done and wish Paris High School the best of luck with their competition at the State Envirothon.

It's that time again to think about restocking your pond. Here is the order form for those interested. The deadline to order all fish is September 12th. Pickup will be Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 8 a.m. at the office. Payment must accompany your order form.

Be sure to call in and let us know if you plan to attend. We are only a few days away!

Come and join us Thursday, July 24th at Mill Creek Park for a CRP Habitat Meeting and Tour beginning at 10 a.m. CRP establishment, maintenance and management, along with plant identification are all topics to be covered. Nate Meinhart from Pheasants Forever along with Dalton Kerans, Natural Resources Specialist, and staff from the Clark County FSA will all be speaking or available to answer and discuss any questions you may have. A walking tour of an established native planting in full bloom will be a highlight of the day. Lunch will be provided by Shore-Murphy and Associates of Marshall to all those who preregister by July 22nd. Call our office at (217)-382-4123 extension 3. We hope to see you there!

The Clark County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) once again celebrated the nationwide observance of Arbor Day with the third graders of Clark County. White Pine seedlings were provided to all third grade students at Martinsville, Marshall and Casey/Westfield schools, compliments of the SWCD. This tree program began in 1993 and is one of several education programs the Clark County SWCD sponsors annually. With the exception of two years during covid times, this is the 30th year seedlings have been provided to County third graders.

A special Thank You goes to Ms. Crouch, Marshall High School Ag teacher, for the use of the greenhouse, and her students from Horticulture and Vet Science class. They bagged nearly 190 seedlings this year.

March 12 was a busy day at Lake Land College, even though the college students were on Spring break. The Fieldhouse was a filled with approximately 200 high school students, making up 39 teams to participate in the 2025 Land Use Council #7 Envirothon. Students were representing schools from Clark, Champaign, Coles, Edgar, Douglas and Vermilion Counties. Two teams from Marshall and three teams from Martinsville were among the participants from Clark County.

Team members from Marshall FFA Team #1 included: Lane Perry, Lucca Giannavola, Wyatt Geltz, Catie Guillmette, Rachel Morris and Wesley Burress. Marshall FFA Team #2 members included: Kaylee Daugherty, Braelyn Crouch, Katelyn McNeely, Carly Foley and Lily Shotts. Ashlee Crouch, Marshall Vo-Ag Teacher was their team sponsor.

Team members from Martinsville’s science class included: Izzy Phillips, Olivia Hammond, Seth Svika, Keygan Finney and Drake Brant. Team members from Martinsville FFA team #1 included: Evan Seaman, Ben Hiatt, Autumn Bias, Ava Pendleton and Ireland Parker. Team members from FFA team #2 included: Sammy Jenness, Addison McDearmon, Olivia Miller, Ezzy Herrera and Molly Kannmacher. Ron Lee, Martinsville Science Teacher, was team sponsor for all three teams

During the event, each team worked together to complete written tests in the areas of Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife and the Current Issue: “Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change.” Also, three teams were selected to give an oral presentation based on a scenario relating to the Current Issue. The Clark County team giving their oral presentation to the group was Martinsville.

In addition to the academic testing aspect of the Envirothon, Stacy Lindemann, Forester with the national Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) gave a presentation to the group on Invasive woodland species. Following the presentation, lunch was served to the students and volunteers.

Winning first place among Clark County teams was Martinsville team #1. Second place was Martinsville FFA team #1, and third place was Marshall FFA team #2. Plaques were presented to the Clark County winners. A variety of awards were presented to overall and county winners, as well as category winners.

This year’s overall winning team was from Chrisman High School. The Chrisman team will compete at the Illinois State Envirothon held at the 4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello, Illinois, on May 5th and 6th. There, they will compete with other Illinois Land Use Council winners for the opportunity to advance to the National Envirothon, which will be held on the campus of Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 20–26.

The Envirothon is annually sponsored by the SWCDs in Land Use Council #7, and the employees in the Council. This was the 26th year for this event. The Clark County teams were sponsored by the Clark County SWCD with the help of Conservation Planner, Jamie Harris and Kambry Price, Administrative Coordinator.

We congratulate the Clark County teams for a job well done and wish Chrisman High School the best of luck with their competition at the State Envirothon.
