Friday Haven youth went to Jimmy Nash Park to swim, jump off the diving board, ride the water slide, and have fun splashing each other in the water. Ending their week of Food, Food, Food they were treated to snacks from the snack shack.. There is still time to sign up for summer fun at The Haven Youth Center. Our theme this week is Food, Food, Food. Youth talked about what went into trail mix and why the ingredients were important to hikers. Then they filled bags with their own version of trail mix to munch on during the week.
The piano has always been a favorite. This year a beginner is teaching others how to play.
We are delighted we have grass to play on.
We hope to see more students in the 7 weeks ahead take advantage of this free summer program which runs 1 to 5pm Monday through Friday.

Our First Field Trip for the Summer was bowling. For some it was their first time. Our fifth grader (a first timer) seemed to be a natural. It was great to see the youth cheering one another on and at times stepping in to try to better another's score.

Part of our theme "Fun, Fun, Fun" this week is having fun together. Whether it's real life Among Us, playing pool, painting, learning to draw, or racing and dancing on the Wii, it seems like the youth this summer are enjoying having fun together. Youth discussed the ways that having fun can promote good mental health through physical activity, stress relief, and improved moods.

Another fun day at The Haven Youth Center.
We played live Among Us and enjoyed Keepy Uppy with a few twist, Freeze Dance and Hola Hoop. Once again painting occurred, the Wii was played and so was xbox.

Registrations are now being accepted for the Haven Youth Center's Summer Program which begins June 1st. Registration forms may be obtained by visiting the Haven at 39 E Jackson or emailing [email protected]. The program runs from 1 to 5pm Monday - Friday. It is free for youth entering 5th through 8th grades. Below is a copy of the themes and field trips for each week.

The Haven is holding an Open House on May 12th 5 to 6pm to promote their summer program. Parents and youth entering 5th - 8th grades are encouraged to attend. Registration information and a schedule of weekly themes and field trips will be handed out. This is a FREE program. Summer staff will be on hand to answer questions.

The Haven Youth Center celebrated 28 years of service to the Martinsville community by inviting currant students and their families to join us for dinner including cake and ice cream. We missed some of our students due to band & choir concerts at Wooden.

Haven youth center youth and staff celebrated the season Wednesday with mad libs, pizza, bingo, charades or Pictionary Each youth received a bag full of goodies and a blush throw blanket. It was great to see so many youth in one place at one time. As a drop in center we usually don’t see everyone on anyone given day.

We wish all of our youth and their families a Merry Christmas.

The Haven will be closed during Winter Break December 22 – Jan 2.

Our Haven Bake Sale was a huge success! We sold 4 kinds of cookies, 2 kinds of fudge, and delicious brownies. Thanks to all who stopped by and supported the Haven Youth. We raised $223.
