What a great June the local kids have had who came to the Tuesday afternoon programs!! Yesterday (our last meeting) was presented by Marlon Mowdy of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. He talked about fish and turtles in our streams, lakes and rivers. The children were given a fish form to take home to paint like one of the fish they learned about yesterday. This was such a great educational experience
for the 32 people present. Ice cream and cookies were eaten with gusto!!!

Last night the library conducted the second World War II seminar - Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest - with Lt. Col. Ben Story, US Army, Retired, in charge. It was great!!! Fifty attended !!! At intermission refreshments were served .Please come to join us on July 5, 6:00 pm to 8 pm, at the Marvell United Methodist Church fellowship hall on Hwy 49.
We have all learned so much. A special thanks to all who helped with the refreshments. Yummy!!!

I am really excited that the Marvell Library could be such a big part of the summer program for kids and could sponsor the World War II seminar. Let me know if you have other ideas for the library!!

John Gchwend's new book should be coming out within a month!!
The library will have him visit the library to talk about his new publication. Will keep you posted!

John (Jody) Gschwend is publishing his 3rd novel at the present time. As soon as it is for sale, I will have a copy at the library for you to check out. It can be read on line immediately as soon as he gives the okay to take it to press. Look for it in about a month! It is science fiction and you will love reading it!!!!

What a day for the library on June 21!!!

We had 55 present for the afternoon kids' program - Rocky Clement and his magic show. The Methodist Church donated cupcakes and along with ice cream, the kids had wonderful treats!!

Then last night 35 attended the first session of the World War II seminar led by Lt. Col. Ben Story. Wonderful!! We served refreshments for that, too. The next session will be next Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00, so if you missed the first, please come to the second and third sessions.
You will learn so much!!! Ben will use a microphone from now on so everyone can better hear him. This seminar is at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Next week , our last children's program will be presented by Marlon Mowdy from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Also the children will make a craft to take home, something they can use and enjoy making. Hope to see a big crowd for our last kids program for 2016!! AND thank you for being the children to these June programs.

Ben Story, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army , Retired, will give a series of discussions on the World War II company-size unit made famous by author Stephen Ambrose' s BAND OF BROTHERS and Tom Hanks mini-series BAND OF BROTHERS. The series will consist of a Power Point presentation of maps, photographs, and facts surrounding Co. E, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division in the European Theater.

There will be three sessions held Tuesdays, June 21, June 28, and July 5, from 6:00 until 8:00 in the Marvell United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Highway 49. There will be a short intermission with refreshments at 7:00.

Please invite your friends to come with you! This event is sponsored by the Marvell Public Library. Call the Marvell Library at 870-829-3183 or 870-995-2537 for more information. There is no charge for this program.

The Marvell Library has the BAND OF BROTHERS movie as well as other World War II movies that you may check out at any time.

I am happy to say we had 60 at our Animal Program yesterday!
Bob Tarter brought 5 unusual animals to show us and everyone learned a great deal about these creatures.

Next week on Tuesday, June 21, we will have a Magic Show--Rocky Clement and the Show of Wonders. This show will begin at 2:00 in the District Court Room. We will continue to serve ice cream and homemade cookies and give each family a special gift to take home.

Please bring your kids and grandkids and neighbor children to the library summer programs. We will have the magic show next week and then the last show will be June 28 with Marlin Mowdy with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission who will talk to us and then help each of us make a neat craft for our yard.

Don't let your kids miss out on these wonderful programs!!!

The second Summer Library Program will be TODAY at 1:00
at the District Court Room across from City Hall. This is a time change so make note of this. We usually have our programs at 2:00.

Today we will have another animal show presented by Bob Tarter. He has come MANY TIMES to Marvell for programs for the kids of this community. He is very good!!!!

Just a reminder !! Hope you can come today. More ice cream and cookies will be served and a special gift will be given to each family.

The Reptilian Warriors children's program on Tuesday was a huge success with 75 in attendance. Josh Justice presented a Mexican black snake, a legless lizard, a forty- pound tortoise, a Gila monster, and a Burmese python. A wonderful educational program for the community!! Everyone was served ice cream and homemade chocolate chip cookies, and each family was given a beautiful book about the U.S.A Presidents.

Next Tuesday, June 14, our program will begin at 1:00 P.M. (NOT 2:00 P.M.). This program is called Health of Our Planet and wil be presented by the National Educational Company of the Midsouth. Please mark your calendar and bring the kids to the District Court Room across from City Hall. I guarantee your children will not be bored and will learn so much. Refreshments will be served again and a special gift will be given to each family .

The Phillips County Library System provides these outstanding programs for children every June in Phillips County on Tuesdays. Kids love coming! Please join us next Tuesday!!!

Good morning ! Hope you have a great day!

First, I wanted to remind you of Marvell Library's FIRST CHILDREN'S SUMMER PROGRAM this coming Tuesday, June 7, at the District Court Room building across from Marvell City Hall at 2:00 P.M. Great program called Reptilian Warriors! Ice cream and cookies will be served after the program and a special gift will be given to each family represented. The program should last from 45 - 60 minutes. MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!!!

Second, the Marvell Library is sponsoring a special seminar called " World War II Series: Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest" conducted by Lt. Col. Ben Story, U.S. Army, Retired. There will be three sessions - June 21, June 28, and July 5 - all Tuesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Marvell United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Highway 49. These sessions will have an intermission with refreshments and the entire evening will be free of charge. I will let you know more about this special event next week.

PLEASE mark your calendar for these above dates. Both are educational and will be totally worth your while.

Welcome to the new Marvell Public Library page! Please check the page often to see what is going on at your library through the summer. Lots of activities are planned!!

On June 7, NEXT TUESDAY, we will begin our first Summer Children's Program at 2:00 P.M. at the District Court Room directly across from Marvell City Hall. Josh Justice with National Educational Company of the MidSouth will present the program Reptilian Warriors. This will be a very exciting and educational program for the kids.

Ice cream and cookies will be served at the close of the program . A special surprise will be presented to EACH FAMILY represented.

Invite your friends to come to this program for an hour of fun. Afterwards you may check out a book at the library!"
