What better way to kick off another school year than with hundreds of new science lessons all about the Yuba River watershed? 📚💧

After years of hard work, we’re thrilled to share the new Yuba River Watershed Curriculum. Yuba Water funded and coordinated the effort, which brought dozens of local educators together to create hundreds of K-12 lessons that connect science to the watershed right here in our own backyard.

The curriculum includes grade-specific units, with lesson plans and supplemental resources covering topics like human impacts on water systems, water chemistry, hydraulic mining, erosion and flooding. All of the units meet Next Generation Science Standards and are free for any teacher who wants to use them.

Yuba Water's day-to-day operations and many of our projects require us to secure third-party services, construction work, supplies and more. That's why we have a robust procurement team to help guide staff through the extensive procurement process.

In our latest Faces of Yuba Water, get to know Procurement and Contracts Manager Megan Morrison who leads that team and ensures our practices are well-documented and done in a fair and transparent way.

Crews are making good progress removing sediment around our New Colgate Powerhouse following the Feb. 13 penstock incident, including along the riverbank.

Throughout our recovery efforts, Yuba Water's environmental team has been on site, monitoring water quality in the Yuba River. In our latest video, Environmental Scientist Shawn Spani shows what conditions are like on the ground and explains our monitoring efforts.

Some good news – containment of the Chute Fire in Yuba County is now at 11 percent. However, an evacuation order remains in place for the area immediately downstream of New Bullards Bar Dam on the North Yuba River as crews continue their containment efforts.

Recreation at Bullards Bar Reservoir remains open. If you're visiting, please be aware of crews in the area and give them space as they continue firefighting efforts.

Thank you to the Yuba County Office of Emergency Services and CAL FIRE NEU for the updates and response, and to our local Dobbins - Oregon House Fire Department as well!

*Tuesday, July 21, noon update on Chute Fire in Dobbins:

There is nothing new to report since the morning update coming from CAL FIRE NEU, as we wait to see what increasing temperatures and wind gusts (up to 15 mph) will bring to fire activity this afternoon.

Evacuation statuses remain the same, though we do want to clarify that the one zone under Evacuation Order is unpopulated, as the impacted area is very remote. As a reminder, those statuses are:

🔴YUB-E098 - Evacuation Order
🔵YUB-E054 - Advisory
🔵YUB-E097 - Advisory
🔵DOB-E011 - Advisory
🔵DOB-E101 - Advisory
🔵YUB-E095 - Advisory
🔵YUB-E100 - Advisory

BUT-- it is still important to stay alert to changing conditions.

At community.zonehaven.com you can look up your address and learn your zone, as well as zoom in on road names to get a clearer picture on the area.

Two more evacuation advisories have been put in place for Zones DOB-E101 and YUB-E100 due to the Chute Fire.

Zone YUB-E098 remains under evacuation order, so please leave the area if you haven't already.
