I want to install a 2nd, shorter library that is only children’s books. Matt contacted the Marysville Tribune, and they had old newspaper vendors for $50. It will take a little work, but I’m very excited about it!

This book was absolutely phenomenal. I am a lover of folklore, and female rage, and authors who exquisitely leave me bread crumbs that encourage me to really pay attention. If you like that too, this is a book for you.

This book was soooo good. And heartbreaking. I was already in an angry & hopeless mindset after Buffalo Hunter Hunter due to being reminded of the absolute slaughter of America’s bison. And this book shows again and again the immense damage humans continue to do to animal populations and the environment. I will say this, though: this book makes me even less afraid of killer whales. And, yes, I’ve already been searching Norwegian animal safaris 🤣

It took me a long time to get started on this one but, once I did, I couldn’t stop. I don’t think it’s spoiling anything to say this is an interesting take on the vampire story; I wouldn’t call this a book driven by plot or mystery or anything like that. It’s a fantastic horror story that melds so much of what I love about 19th-century literature, but also reminds you constantly of the damage we did to this country and continue to do.

“What was safety, anyway, but the sound of a bomb falling on someone else’s home?”

I recommend you read this, but I also think pairing it with One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This makes it much more impactful.

The hold list for this book is huge, and I understand why. I don’t think it was the author’s intention, but it left me feeling hopeless. But it also made me feel better because sometimes you look around and the way people react (or don’t react) to things makes you feel like you’re crazy, you know? I feel less crazy, but even more angry. So maybe that’s good. I’ll be getting to his other book, American War very soon.
