📢 Property Tax Credit Reminder

If you currently receive the Ohio Homestead Exemption, we want to remind you about the one-time property tax credit approved by Ohio legislators.

Eligible homeowners are expected to receive approximately $450–$475 in property tax relief on their January 2027 tax bill.

This credit will provide meaningful relief to many Ohio seniors, disabled homeowners, and disabled veterans.

✅ No additional application is required for those already receiving the Homestead Exemption.

We know property taxes continue to be a concern for many homeowners, and while more long-term reform is still needed, this one-time credit will provide some welcome relief.

📢 Upcoming Office Closure Updates

We wanted to give Union County residents a quick update on a couple of upcoming dates when the Union County Auditor’s Office will be closed:

🤝 Thursday, September 10th | 11:00 AM–1:00 PM
Our office will be closed for our quarterly team-building activity. Our team is taking some time to connect and collaborate so we can continue working together to better serve our community.

📊 Wednesday, September 16th | ALL DAY
Our office will be closed while our staff hosts the 2026 Ohio Enterprise Assessment & Tax User Group Conference. This conference provides valuable training and opportunities for our team to stay up to date on assessment, taxation, and the tools and resources we use every day.

We appreciate your understanding as our team takes time for professional development and team building. Both of which help us provide the best possible service to Union County taxpayers.

If you own farmland in Ohio, there may be another layer of protection available to you beyond the CAUV program.

An Agricultural District is a separate, voluntary program that can provide important legal protections for landowners who are committed to keeping their property in agricultural use.

Agricultural District enrollment can provide protections including:

🌱 Protection against certain nuisance lawsuits related to normal agricultural activities
💡 Limitations on certain special public utility assessments
🏡 Additional scrutiny when eminent domain is being considered

Once an Agricultural District is established, it is renewed every 5 years, helping provide continued protection for qualifying agricultural land.

At the Union County Auditor’s Office, we want to do everything we can to help our county’s farmers succeed and ensure they know about programs that can help protect their farms.

🚨 Union County Auditor Warns Residents About False Property Tax Relief Video 🚨

The Union County Auditor’s Office is alerting residents to be cautious of a YouTube video circulating online that falsely claims a new federal program provides property tax relief for older homeowners based on their age. Our office has received several calls from residents asking about the information presented in the video. The video instructs homeowners to contact their county auditor and request a “Senior Homeowner Tax Review Request” form. No such federal law, program, or form exists.

The video also makes numerous other claims about federal property tax freezes, assessment caps, new exemptions, tax credits, filing deadlines, and other benefits based on a homeowner’s age. These claims are not accurate. Property tax relief programs in Ohio are established under Ohio law, not through the federal program described in this video.

We want residents to know that you can always contact the Union County Auditor’s Office with questions about legitimate property tax relief programs at 937-645-3003
