🦁💛 WHAT YOU DO MATTERS. 💛🦁

Today, our Sunnyside staff had the chance to watch a special video featuring some of our former Sunnyside Lions! 🎥✨

These incredible alumni generously took the time to share memories from their days walking these halls, reflect on the people who made a difference for them, and talk about the ways their Sunnyside experience helped shape who they are today.

And WOW. 🥹❤️

It was a powerful reminder that Sunnyside is a special place because of the people who grace these halls. The teachers, support staff, families, and students who show up every day and make this community what it is.

To our staff:
What you do matters.
The lessons you teach. 📚
The kind words you say. 💛
The students you encourage. 🌟
The questions you ask. 💭
The extra minutes you give. ⏰
The moments you help a child believe in themselves. 🦁

We may not always get to see the impact of those moments right away, but our alumni are living proof that the work we do every day can help set students up for bright futures. 🌈✨

And Lions, this message is for YOU, too!

What you choose to do at school matters. Your effort matters. Your kindness matters. Your curiosity matters. The way you treat others matters. The goals you set and the challenges you take on matter.

Who knows what incredible things our Lions today will accomplish tomorrow?

🦁💛 Lions, it’s almost time to WALK ON! 💛🦁

Families, keep an eye on your mailbox! 📬 A special postcard will be arriving at your home soon as we get ready to welcome our Lions back to Sunnyside and celebrate the exciting year ahead.

This year, we’re asking our Lions to think about a powerful word: HOPE.

What are you hoping for this school year?

Maybe it’s…
📚 Making a new reading goal and going for one of Mrs. Johnson’s reading awards!
🤝 Making a brand new friend.
💪 Learning how to work through and process those BIG emotions.
🪢 Trying to beat Mr. Cruz’s jump-rope record!
🎨 Joining a club and discovering something new.
⚽ Finding a new activity, hobby, or passion.
🌟 Becoming more confident, kind, brave, or independent.
💭 Setting an academic goal, a social goal, an emotional goal, or even a physical goal.

There are SO many things to hope for when it comes to having a positive, joyful, and successful Sunnyside experience.

When that postcard arrives, we hope families will take a few minutes to sit down with their Lions and talk about their hopes for the year. What do they want to learn? Who do they want to become? What do they want to try? What might they be nervous about? What are they excited for?

Our theme this year builds on a lyric from last year’s theme, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

We can’t wait to walk alongside our Lions and families through another incredible year. ❤️

🦁📣 WE SEE YOUR ROAR, ANDREA ROSSMAN! 📣🦁

If you know Sunnyside, chances are you know Andrea Rossman. ❤️

It is hard to imagine a Sunnyside event without Andrea. If there’s something happening in our learning community, there’s a very good chance Andrea isn’t just involved… she’s leading the way! 🙌

Andrea has spent the last two years as our PTSA President, and we are incredibly excited that she will continue serving our community as Vice President this year! 🎉

From 🍿 Popcorn Days and 🎬 Movie Nights to 🎪 festivals, 🎟️ Bingo & Auction Night, 📝 PTSA meetings, and 💰 fundraisers, Andrea is the person who somehow makes it all happen! She brings energy, creativity, organization, and, most importantly, her heart to everything she does. Whether she’s planning an event, rallying volunteers, supporting our students, or finding another way to bring our community together, Andrea makes it happen! 🦁❤️

We can safely say that without Andrea, our PTSA would not be what it is today. Her impact on Sunnyside is enormous, and we are so incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and love she pours into our learning community.

Andrea, we see your ROAR! 🦁💛 Thank you for everything you do for our students, families, staff, and entire Sunnyside community. You are an incredible example of what it means to show up, pitch in, and make a difference.

We are pleased to share a new addition to the Sunnyside learning community: a bench dedicated to honoring the legacy of Mrs. Brickey.

Peacefully placed beneath a tree with a direct view of the playground, this feels like a fitting spot for Mrs. Brickey’s memory. We can easily imagine her enjoying this peaceful place while watching our Lions play.

We are currently working on a date to gather together and officially dedicate the bench. We will share those details with the community once they are finalized.

Until then, please feel welcome to visit, take a moment to sit, and enjoy this special new addition to Sunnyside. We hope it brings a sense of peace, connection, and fond memories to all who spend time there.

🌟 Campus Beautification Day is August 29! 🦁🌿

We are so excited about the progress happening around our campus! From our newly renovated parking lot 🚗✨ to the freshly repainted trim 🎨 and other great summer projects that have already been completed, there is so much to celebrate!

Now, we want to build on that progress and make our learning community feel like the warm, welcoming space our Lions deserve when they return! 🏫❤️

On August 29, we’re inviting our Sunnyside community to join us for a Campus Beautification Day! 🌸🧹🌱 Whether you’re a current Lion, a former Lion, or community supporter, we would be honored if you would consider gifting some of your time to help us make Sunnyside shine! ✨

Every helping hand makes a difference, and together we can create a campus that feels welcoming, cared for, and ready to welcome our Lions home. 🦁💙

Today, we paint! 🎨 🥳

This project was supported by funds received from the levy.

With the painting, we have increased the number of parking spaces and the flow will better support pick-up and drop-off.

Have you heard? The Marysville School District Board of Directors will be talking about the upcoming replacement levy at their next couple of meetings, and we want to see you there!

🗓️ On Monday, August 17, the board’s regularly scheduled meeting will include a presentation and discussion about the replacement levy.

🗓️And on Wednesday, September 9, the board will discuss and possibly take action to put it on the February 2027 ballot. ✅

👉Meetings are at 6pm, located in the board room at 1049 State Avenue. Join us there to get the latest on the MSD25 levy – and if you can’t make it, you can always join us virtually.

Exciting news at Sunnyside! Reece Construction has broken ground on our improved pick-up and drop-off loop! If you plan to come to campus for our open Library Thursdays or to use the playground, please park on the grass to the right of the driveway as you approach campus.

🚀🌟 Our Lions had an out-of-this-world opportunity! 🌟🚀

Our students had the chance to interact with a real astronaut, Dr. Tess Caswell! 🧑‍🚀✨ Dr. Caswell graciously spent time with our Lions, sharing stories about her work, discussing space exploration, and answering students' questions about the universe. The thoughtful and insightful questions our Lions asked were truly impressive! 🌎🌙⭐

This incredible experience was made possible by one of our amazing new staff members, Mrs. Tallman. ❤️ In the winter, our students enjoyed the Pacific Science Center experience, but because Sunnyside has grown by more than 100 students in just over a year, not every classroom was able to participate in all of the exhibits. Mrs. Tallman saw an opportunity to ensure every Lion had an unforgettable science experience and worked to make it happen. 🦁🔬

As a result, the classes that missed out on the preferred exhibit were able to attend a special assembly featuring a real-life astronaut! Dr. Caswell has been actively involved with recent Artemis projects, helping inspire the next generation of explorers and innovators. 🚀🌕✨

What a fun and inspiring experience for our students! Thank you, Mrs. Tallman and Dr. Caswell, for helping our Lions dream big, reach for the stars, and see that anything is possible. 💫🦁❤️
