We Can, and Must, do Better than Raja Krishnamoorthi; therefore, PDA encourages all Illinois progressives to vote for Juliana Stratton.
pam,
Progressive activists in Illinois have a number of choices among the crowded Democratic field in the upcoming primary for choosing a successor to retiring Sen. Richard Durbin. It is imperative that progressives not be divided lest a well funded conservative Democrat will win a six-year term, becoming a barrier to progressive policies that Illinois Democrats support.
One thing most of us agree on is that frontrunner (in most polls) Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi would be the worst-case outcome in the primary. He is deeply connected to crypto, healthcare, and artificial intelligence industries, and has proven to be impervious to entreaties supporting universal healthcare. He voted to fund and thank ICE, and accepts AIPAC funding.
Of the six progressive candidates who support Expanded and Improved Medicare for All, four are polling in low single-digits with less than $90K in fundraising—sadly, simply not enough resources to be competitive in Illinois.
That leaves Rep. Robin Kelly and Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, both progressive-leaning candidates who would be more progressive than Sen. Durbin. Of the two, our assessment is that Lt. Gov. Stratton is better positioned in polls and resources to beat Rep. Krishnamoorthi. PACs associated with Krishnamoorthi are now boosting Rep. Kelly and attacking Lt. Gov. Stratton, trying to further splinter the progressive vote in the state.
Progressive Democrats of America urges Illinois voters to vote strategically for Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton to succeed Sen. Durbin with a more progressive public servant and prevent Illinois from being represented by a corporatist centrist in the pocket of oligarchs.
For a better and more progressive future,
The PDA National
