It is a paid/volunteer department with 33 active members and is made up of the Maryville Fire Department and Polk Township Fire Protection District. The station houses 3 Pumpers, 1 Tanker, 1 Aerial, 2 Brush Trucks, 1 UTV, 1 Pickup, 1 Command Vehicle and 1 Cascade Air Trailer.

After-School Home Safety

Some students may spend time at home before a parent or guardian arrives. Make sure children and teens understand the household safety rules.

Review these reminders together:

• Do not use the stove or oven without permission
• Keep matches and lighters out of reach
• Know where emergency contact numbers are located
• Do not open the door for strangers
• Leave immediately if a smoke alarm sounds
• Call 911 from a safe location during an emergency

Clear rules and regular conversations can help students make safe decisions when they are home alone.

Students are back in class, which means school zones, crosswalks and neighborhood streets will be especially busy.

Drivers should:

• Reduce speed near schools
• Watch for children entering the roadway
• Follow crossing guard instructions
• Avoid phones and other distractions
• Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians
• Leave extra space around school buses

A few extra seconds of patience can help prevent a tragedy.

Welcome Back to School

Welcome back, students, teachers, staff and families!

As the new school year begins, please help us keep everyone safe.

Drivers should slow down in school zones, watch for crossing guards, stop for school buses and avoid distractions. Students should use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible and look both ways before crossing the street.

We hope everyone has a safe, successful and enjoyable school year.

We’ve hit the sunset of summertime, folks!

As we march into the new school year tomorrow, please let 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 be the champion of the day. Regardless of which building(s) your kiddos call home, tomorrow will be a day of firsts for many. Some kids will be attending our schools after moving to our community from elsewhere, some parents will be dropping their babies off for the first time, and EVERY student and parent will be getting back into daily school grind. Please be patient with the increased traffic, the buses out and about, and the parents just trying to get the routine figured out.

We can’t wait to see you all bright and early tomorrow. Here’s to the 2026 - 2027 school year!

Complete a Home Safety Walkthrough

Before the school year begins, take a few minutes to walk through your home and look for potential hazards.

Check that:

• Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working
• Exits and hallways are clear
• Electrical cords are not damaged
• Outlets are not overloaded
• Matches and lighters are stored securely
• Flammable items are kept away from heat sources
• Everyone knows the family meeting place

A quick walkthrough can help prevent emergencies and make your home safer for everyone.

College Move-In Fire Safety

Heading to college or moving into a new apartment or dorm room? Fire safety should be part of the move-in checklist.

College students should:

• Learn the building’s evacuation routes
• Locate fire alarms and exits
• Never disable a smoke alarm
• Keep hallways and exits clear
• Use approved power strips
• Avoid overloading electrical outlets
• Never leave cooking unattended
• Follow campus rules regarding candles and open flames

Take fire alarms seriously every time. Leave immediately, use the stairs and remain outside until officials say it is safe to return.

🐾 A pretty special donation to the Maryville Fire Department!🚒

When 6-year-old Makenna Maudlin learned that Clipper Distributing Company LLC had provided pet oxygen masks to firefighters, she had an important question: What about the Maryville Fire Department?

Makenna’s mom works at Clipper, and Makenna wanted to make sure that if her dogs — or anyone else’s pets — ever needed our help, we had the right equipment to care for them.

Thanks to Makenna and Clipper Distributing Company LLC, two pet oxygen mask kits have now been donated to MFD and will be carried on our trucks.

We’ve seen firsthand how important oxygen can be for animals rescued from fires. These new masks give our firefighters equipment specifically designed for our four-legged patients when they need us most.

Thank you, Makenna, for thinking of your dogs, our firefighters, and all the pets in our community. And thank you to Clipper for making her idea a reality!🐶🐱
