Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation

Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation This is the official government page for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Likewise, the Tribe provides generous support to local nonprofit organizations.

The Mashantucket Pequots are a native Algonquin people, located in southeastern Connecticut, who endured centuries of conflict, survival, and continuity on and around one of North America’s oldest Indian reservations (Est. 1666). In 1637, the Pequots became the first native people to survive a genocidal massacre at the hands of European colonists, in what would become the continental United States

. Pequot history is an unprecedented story of redemption and restoration, which today, is showcased at the Tribe’s world-class Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center (www.pequotmuseum.org). Today, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation owns and operates one of the largest and most successful resort casinos in North America—Foxwoods Resort Casino (www.foxwoods.com)—along with a variety of other enterprises, including the Lake of Isles Golf Course (www.lakeofisles.com); Pequot Pharmaceutical Network (www.prxn.com), and the Spa at Norwich Inn (www.thespaatnorwichinn.com). All together, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation remains one of the State of Connecticut’s highest tax payers and largest employers, and has contributed more than $3 billion to Connecticut through a first-of-its-kind, tribal gaming revenue-sharing agreement, enacted in 1993.

Long before the founding of the United States, our people endured one of the darkest chapters in Indigenous history.

Following the Pequot War and the devastation of 1637, surviving Pequots faced displacement, enslavement, and an intentional effort to erase our identity, culture, and existence. Even after being declared “extinct” by colonial powers, we remained. Through our resilience, we persevered.

In 1666, our Mashantucket reservation was established and it continues to stand today as the longest continually occupied Indian reservation in North America.

Our story did not end in 1637.

We are still here.

Today on Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to this country, including valued members of our Tribe. We recognize the sacrifices made by Native service members throughout history and hold their memory with deep gratitude and respect.

“It is special because of the people. The people that dreamt it, the people that planned it, the people that helped design it, and the folks that will ultimately use it.”

The Pequot Wellness Center recently broke ground, and we chatted with Dr. Vora, Chief Medical Officer for Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, who reflected on the significance of this incredible milestone.

One year ago, we officially opened the doors to this incredible destination, and what a year it has been. Together, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Great Wolf Lodge embarked on a partnership rooted in shared values — family entertainment, hospitality, economic opportunity, and creating memorable experiences for guests from across the region and beyond.

Thank you, to our friends at Make-A-Wish Connecticut and UConn star, Alex Karaban for joining us! 😄

Happy Anniversary! 🎉

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods Resort Casino were proud to host the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut’s 75th Annual Citizen of the Year Celebration, honoring Katherine “Kathie” Verano. As CEO of Safe Futures, Kathie has spent over 30 years championing survivors of violence with compassion and lasting impact. Elder Council Vice Chairman Boyd began the evening with a meaningful opening prayer, setting the tone for a special celebration. Tribal Council Chairman Rodney Butler, himself a past Citizen of the Year honoree, welcomed guests to Mashantucket and reflected on the importance of community leadership and service. Congratulations to Kathie on this well-deserved recognition!
