The Health Care Proxy document is the first step in the guardianship process. Without this, there may be a delay in moving patients to the appropriate level of care. Not having a designated decision maker or documents in place may also lead to delays in providing care according to the wishes of an individual. This is not only an issue for our aging population; in an emergency situation, it is important to have someone who can understand and advocate for a patient’s wishes.

Your Health Care. Your Choice. Every person can make a plan for good care today and over your lifetime. Starting at 18 years old, you can make your own personal health care plan. One human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in Barnstable County. In response, MA DPH has raised the risk of transmission for West Nile Virus from "moderate" to "high" in the following towns: Sandwich, Mashpee, Barnstable and Yarmouth.

Mosquito populations in our area continued to decline this week. While there are less mosquitoes biting, the risk of disease transmission is increasing each week until we get a hard frost. This is because the mosquitoes that are flying are getting older and more likely to be carrying a disease.

Cape Cod Mosquito Control crews continue to check and treat areas of standing water, including catch basins and other man-made containers in all member towns.

For more information and guidance, click below to view the MA DPH press release.

The Town of Mashpee has been elevated from MODERATE to HIGH RISK by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH)
