A recent study found that su***de rates among young people declined in the years following the launch of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, highlighting the lifesaving impact that accessible crisis support can have.

Progress in su***de prevention is possible when communities invest in connection, care, and support — and when people know they do not have to face difficult moments alone. We are proud to be a part of the 988 community.

If you or someone you know needs support, call or text 988 anytime.

Last month, members of our team attended Massachusetts’ 25th Annual Su***de Prevention Conference, joining colleagues and partners from across the Commonwealth for two days of learning, connection, and shared commitment to prevention.

Our staff participated in sessions focused on emerging trends in su***de prevention, best practices in community outreach, and innovative approaches to training and education. The conference provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the evolving needs of our communities and to strengthen connections with others doing this critical work.

We were also excited to introduce two of our newest team members — Angela, our Manager of Training and Development, and Bill, our Community Outreach Coordinator — to colleagues and partners from across the Commonwealth. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside dedicated professionals from across the state and look forward to bringing new ideas and insights back to our programs and outreach efforts. Today is Volunteer Appreciation Day, and we’re taking a moment to recognize the people who choose to show up for others. At The Samaritans, that includes people who offer their time and presence to support those navigating grief, loss, and difficult moments—quietly, compassionately, and without expectation. Their willingness to sit with someone, to listen, and to care makes a meaningful difference. To everyone who gives their time in service of others: thank you. We see you, and we’re grateful.

In the moments after a su***de loss, everything can feel overwhelming and unreal.

That’s when LOSS (Local Outreach to Su***de Survivors) Teams step in, offering in-person support so no one has to face those first, hardest hours alone.

LOSS Team volunteers show up with quiet compassion and steadiness. Each team includes two trained volunteers, one of whom has experienced su***de loss themselves, bringing a depth of understanding that words alone can’t offer.

If you’re someone who can stay grounded in difficult moments, lead with empathy, and be a calm, caring presence for others—this work matters. And if you’ve experienced su***de loss, your lived experience can be especially powerful.

You can help shape the very first moments of someone’s grief with care and connection.

Grief doesn’t really follow rules. Some days are heavier than others, and some things just stay with you. If you’ve lost someone to su***de, we want you to know you don’t have to carry that alone.

Safe Place is a virtual peer support group where you can come as you are — whether you feel like talking, listening, or just being in a space with people who get it.

We meet on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month from 6:00–7:30 PM on Zoom. Our groups are led by trained su***de loss survivor facilitators, and Safe Place is free and open to anyone. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been or what your grief looks like. You’re welcome here.

It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Executive Director, Stephanie Kelly.

Stephanie’s nearly two decades of leadership and compassion were at the very heart of The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands, shaping not only the direction of our organization but also the lives of so many individuals in our community. She was more than a leader—she was a mentor, cherished colleague, and true friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her impact reached far beyond our organization—she built bridges between agencies, fostered innovative partnerships, and brought warmth, professionalism, and compassion to every joint initiative. Her encouragement and gentle guidance touched countless lives and fostered a culture of compassion within our organization. Stephanie’s legacy will continue for years to come through the colleagues, partners, and community members she served so passionately.

As we remember Stephanie, let us find comfort in the impact she made and the community she helped build. Together, we will continue the vital work that was so close to her heart, ensuring her spirit lives on in every life we touch.

Visitation with the family will take place on Saturday, April 4th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Chapman Funerals and Cremations in West Falmouth (584 West Falmouth Highway/Route 28A). The Funeral Service for Stephanie will begin at 3:00 p.m. The burial is private at a later date.

This Employee Appreciation Day, we’re honoring the people who make our mission possible every single day.

To our Crisis Line Associates: thank you for showing up with compassion, patience, and steady presence for every caller who needs to be heard. Your listening saves lives in ways that can’t always be seen, but are deeply felt.

To our administration team: thank you for the care, coordination, and behind-the-scenes work that keeps support accessible to our community.

Together, you create connection, hope, and a place where no one has to struggle alone. We are endlessly grateful for your dedication and heart. 💙 [PIC]
