🎉 CELEBRATING GAIGE 🎉

It's hard to put into words just how much Gaige Younke has meant to our Habitat family.

Gaige's journey with us began through the NIACC Building Trades Program, where he helped build two homes at our Madison Heights Development. What started as a student opportunity quickly grew into so much more. After completing the program, Gaige joined our team as an intern and became an invaluable part of our mission.

As Gaige moves on to an exciting new opportunity with Heidelberg Materials, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible person he is and the impact he has made here.
His work ethic, flexibility, willingness to learn, and drive to continually better himself have been second to none. Whether he was tackling a challenging task, stepping in wherever needed, teaching volunteers on the job site, or lending a helping hand to a teammate, Gaige always showed up with a positive attitude and a determination to get the job done right.

Beyond his skills and dedication, Gaige brought something equally important to our team—joy. His quick wit, mischievous Cheshire Cat smile, and ability to make people laugh brightened countless days on the job site and in the office. He had a way of making work fun while still giving his all.

While we're certainly sad to see him go, we couldn't be more excited for this next chapter in his career. We know he will continue to do amazing things, and we are grateful for the time we had the privilege of working alongside him.

Thank you, Gaige, for everything you've contributed to Habitat for Humanity of North Central Iowa. You will be greatly missed, but you'll always be part of the Habitat family.

This equipment was instrumental in helping us complete essential yard dirt work as we continue preparing these homes for our future Habitat homeowners. 🏡

Today, we remember and honor Paul Charlson, a beloved member of the Habitat for Humanity North Central Iowa family. 🏡

For nearly two decades, Paul faithfully served our mission as a board member, volunteer, donor, advocate, and friend. Whether he was helping build a home, painting a wall, landscaping a yard, serving on the board, or celebrating alongside homeowners, Paul brought generosity, dedication, and a servant's heart to everything he did.

"Paul always had a contagious smile and a willingness to help wherever he was needed," shared Executive Director Melissa Schoneberg. "We have so many fond memories of him, and he was an instrumental supporter to our mission year after year since the day he randomly walked through our office doors to get involved. He even visited me almost daily with paperwork to sign while on maternity leave to ensure the purchase of our ReStore and office facility went smoothly! He left no stone unturned- and truly changed so many lives for the better, including mine. His leadership and commitment made our organization stronger."

Paul's impact can be seen throughout our organization, in the homes he helped build, the families he encouraged, and the community he cared so deeply about along the way. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as part of the Habitat family forever. 💚

Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul's family and loved ones during this difficult time.

We are so grateful to the team from First Citizens Bank! 💚

This opportunity came together on fairly short notice, which made their willingness to jump in and help mean even more.

Their team made a tremendous impact by raking, picking up rocks, and spreading grass seed to help complete the landscaping. They even managed to beat the rain before wrapping up their day with a few hours of service at our ReStore North Iowa.

There’s truly no slowing this group down!
They worked hard, stayed positive, and brought smiles with them every step of the way. We always enjoy partnering with First Citizens Bank and are incredibly thankful for their continued support of our mission! 🏡

What a beautiful day to build a ramp and a little bit of hope! 🏡🛠️✨

Our team and volunteers came together this week to complete an accessibility ramp for Phillip, a kind gentleman whose mobility challenges had made it unsafe for him to enter and leave his home. After suffering a broken kneecap earlier this year from a fall, navigating the stairs became increasingly difficult so he stayed with a friend from church for several months while waiting for a safer way to access his home.

Our very own Steve Meyer led this project from start to finish. While the build itself took just one day, ramps like these require hours of planning and preparation long before volunteers arrive on site. From evaluating the property and designing the ramp to measuring materials, organizing supplies, and leading a team of seven volunteers on build day, Steve's dedication behind the scenes helps make projects like this possible.

The day was made even more special by the incredible kindness of Phillip's neighbors. One family generously provided drinks and lunch for the crew, while another surprised the volunteers with ice cream treats to help everyone cool off in the afternoon sunshine. Their generosity was a beautiful reminder of what community looks like.

The highlight of the day was seeing Phillip's face light up as he safely walked down his new ramp for the very first time. The smiles, gratitude, and excitement were contagious. Moments like these remind us that a ramp is much more than a structure, it's safety, independence, dignity, and the freedom to return home.

Thank you to Steve, our volunteers, and Phillip's wonderful neighbors for making this project possible. Together, we're creating safer homes and stronger communities, one project at a time. 💚
