Apparently, someone forgot to tell us it was National Donut Day.

Fortunately, the Salvation Army and Jane Fischer & Associates got the memo and made sure our crews were well supplied with donuts this morning.

Thank you both for thinking of us and helping us celebrate a day we didn't even know we were celebrating!

May was filled with training, community outreach, and opportunities to learn and grow. From boat operations and captain drills to fire extinguisher training, hose testing, and community events, our crews stayed busy preparing for emergencies while connecting with the people we serve.

Thank you to everyone who supports MCFD and helps make these opportunities possible. As summer gets underway, we look forward to continuing our training, safety outreach, and community involvement throughout Mason City.

Yesterday, Mason City Fire Department partnered with Walmart to share important fire and life safety information with our community during June Safety Month.

Families stopped by to learn about home safety, fire prevention, bike safety, and more. Sparky also made a special appearance and enjoyed visiting with kids and families throughout the event.

Thank you to Walmart for partnering with us to help promote a safer community.

Join Coach Hannah, Sparky, and the Mason City Fire Department for the June Safety Month Event until 7pm!

EMS Remembrance Day

Today, we honor and remember the EMS professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to helping others will never be forgotten. We also recognize the families, friends, and coworkers who continue to carry their memory forward.

The Mason City Fire Department thanks all EMS professionals—past and present—for their service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to caring for others.

Save-A-Life Day

On Save-A-Life Day, we recognize the important role the public plays during emergencies. In many situations, bystanders are the first to help before emergency responders arrive.

Learning CPR, Stop the Bleed, and other lifesaving skills can make a difference when every second counts. MCFD encourages everyone to take advantage of community education opportunities and become prepared to help in an emergency.

Helpful resources:
• American Heart Association
• American Red Cross
• American College of Surgeons – Stop the Bleed Program
• STOP the BLEED

Together, we can help save lives.

Training never stops at MCFD. Recently, Neil Dahle from MercyOne Air Med presented a class on blood product administration for our EMS crews. The training focused on recognizing patients who may need blood products and preparing them for administration in the field.

While MCFD ambulances do not currently carry blood products, MercyOne Air Med does. Continuing education and specialized training help our crews provide the best possible patient care.

To help support this lifesaving resource, MercyOne is hosting a “Fuel the Flight” blood drive on May 22. Click the link and register here: https://bit.ly/49nAE91

EMS for Children Day

Working with children is one of the best parts of this job.

Not only do we get to live out a childhood dream, but we also have the opportunity to educate, encourage, and inspire the next generation. Whether it’s teaching high school students in an EMT class, welcoming youth summer groups to the station, or giving tours to local organizations, MCFD is committed to community outreach and education.

Seeing the smiles, excitement, and curiosity from kids of all ages is something we never take for granted. Whatever the opportunity may be, we’re proud to meet it with a smile.

Thank you to Jim Hunt Electric for sharing the knowledge and expertise with our crews.
