Craig Wieland's Ice Monster

Craig Wieland's Ice Monster The rest is history.

In December 2010, Michigan author & businessman Craig Wieland wondered, "What would happen if I put a sprinkler 30' up in a tree and let it run when it's 10° F outside..."

Well, All good things must come to an end and the end of the Ice Monster is now in sight. The rain over the past week was more than it could bear and he has been reduced to shell of his former self. I would think that the grim reaper will appear in less than a week. I'll post his death, as soon as it happens...And the announce the Winner!!

ICE Monster Update! Yesterday the temps hit 80 degrees here in Southern Michigan. I thought everyone might like to see how the ICE Monster fared in this withering heat. All in all...pretty well. It provided a cool breeze on the downwind side and kept my beer cold while I enjoyed reading the Newspaper.

A lot of people have been asking about the welfare of the Ice Monster now that spring has officially arrived and the temps have been going up every day (70's this weekend!!!) Well, yes, he has been wounded and yes, he has lost quite a bit of weight, but no, he is not even close to disappearing. If I get a chance, I'll post some pics but it is still almost 20' high with a circumference at the base of about 60 feet

The Ice Monster continues to stand strong against the sunshine and rising temps. Here is a photo from this afternoon.

After taking a beating last week due to the near record temps the Ice Monster is growing once again. The water was turned back on over the weekend when the temps started dropping and with the low last night around 8 degrees, it is adding about a ton of ice per day. It looks like winters grip will hold on Mid Michigan for at least a week, so this thing is far from over.

The Ice Monster has weathered the recent warm up quite well. Now that the contest is over, I will try to keep everyone informed as to how the the Ice Monster is holding up as the weather (hopefully) warms up. Snowing to beat the band right now in Michigan so no melting today. Over 300 guesses in the contest. Thanks everybody.
