🚨 SCAM ALERT – PLEASE READ & SHARE 🚨

The Mason Metro Police Department wants to make the public aware of a recent scam reported in our area.

A local church received a phone call from someone claiming to be with American Electric Power (AEP). The caller stated that the electric service would be disconnected within 45 minutes unless immediate payment was made.

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

Legitimate utility companies, including AEP, do NOT call customers demanding immediate payment or threaten disconnection within minutes.

🚩 Red Flags to Watch For:

* Threats of immediate disconnection
* Requests for payment over the phone
* Demands for prepaid cards, gift cards, or unusual payment methods
* High-pressure tactics to act quickly

✅ What You Should Do:

* Do NOT provide any personal or payment information
* Hang up immediately
* Contact AEP directly using the official number on your bill
* Report the incident to local law enforcement

We encourage everyone to stay alert and share this information with friends, family, and especially elderly community members who are often targeted.

If you receive a similar call, please notify the Mason Metro Police Department.

Stay safe,
Chief Colton McKinney

“We take crimes like this seriously because they impact the sense of safety in our community. We are committed to responding quickly, following the evidence, and holding individuals accountable. We appreciate the cooperation of the victim in helping move this case forward.”

We have received several complaints about people running the red light at the bridge intersection, including concerns shared here on Facebook.

As a result, we are stepping up patrols in that area. Just this week, citations have already been issued to three individuals for running the red light.

With the holiday season in full swing, we know everyone is rushing from place to place. However, running a red light puts your life and the lives of others at serious risk. Please slow down, stay alert, and obey all traffic laws so everyone can get where they’re going safely.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe.

👮‍♂️ Community Connection in Action 👮‍♂️

Chief Colton McKinney had the privilege of visiting New Haven Elementary to speak with students about his role as Chief of Police and the responsibilities that come with it.

Chief McKinney discussed the importance of community and home safety, as well as stranger danger awareness. The students were eager to learn, asked great questions, and got a hands-on look at law enforcement in action.

Building positive relationships with our youth is a cornerstone of community policing, and we are proud to see the next generation so engaged and interested in safety.

A special thank you to New Haven Elementary for inviting us into your classrooms!

Chief McKinney’s stated
“It’s always an honor to spend time with our students. They are the future of our community, and if we can inspire even one child to feel safer, smarter, and more confident, then we’ve done our job.”
