🐞💕 It’s , and this week we’re sending a little extra love Ladybug’s way!

This sweet girl is waiting at Livingston County Animal Shelter, and from the sound of it, she’s got a whole lot going for her. 😍 She’s the kind of pup who’s ready to tag along for the good stuff, walks outside, car rides, treats, sunny afternoons and plenty of time with her people.

Ladybug is still waiting for someone to see her and think, “Yep. That’s my dog.” ❤️

A PALETTE FULL OF POSSIBILITIES!

We have an incredibly talented volunteer, Ricardo Guimaraes, who is doing something truly special for some of our longer stay dogs.
He is creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind oil paintings of them. When each dog finds their forever home, their portrait will go home with them as a special keepsake!

But first… we thought we’d have a little fun!

How's your Friday?

We had the best surprise at the end of the day. Ten Point Farm stopped by and sponsored the adoption fees for the rest of our adoptable dogs! We are incredibly grateful for their big hearts and continued support. 🐾

🐾 This is Kevin now. ❤️

Happy. Healthy. Loved. And, perhaps most importantly, someone’s very spoiled dog.

But Kevin’s story didn’t start that way.

When Officer Joblonski first found Kevin, he was in some of the worst condition she had ever seen. Kevin was severely emaciated, with nearly every bone in his body visible beneath his skin.

He needed help. And he needed a lot of it.

Kevin came into our care, and while our officers worked on the investigation that brought him to us, our veterinary and shelter teams got to work on Kevin.

He was fed. He was treated. He gained weight. He got stronger. And as the weeks passed, we got to watch the dog underneath it all start to emerge.

And Kevin, being Kevin, made sure we fell in love with him along the way. ❤️

One staff member in particular fell especially hard.

What started as helping care for a dog who had been through something terrible eventually turned into Kevin finding exactly where he belonged. He was adopted by one of our own, and the dog who arrived at our shelter in unimaginable condition went home with someone who already knew just how special he was.

Today, Kevin is almost unrecognizable from the dog Officer Joblonski first met.

And now there’s one more piece of his story we can finally share.

Kevin’s cruelty case is officially closed.

Both individuals charged in connection with his case pleaded as charged. Both were placed on probation and, as part of their sentences, are prohibited from owning or caring for animals during their respective probationary periods.

We would be lying if we said there weren’t times when we wished the consequences in cases like Kevin’s were greater. When you are the person who finds an animal in this condition, investigates what happened to them, nurses them back to health or simply spends every day watching them recover, it’s hard not to feel that way.

But there was accountability.

And while the court case may be over, Kevin’s story is nowhere near finished.

Because this is Kevin now.

Safe. Healthy. Ridiculously loved. And home. ❤️

There are a lot of people behind an outcome like this. The officer who answered the call. The officers who investigated. The veterinary team who helped his body recover. The shelter staff who cared for him day after day. And ultimately, the staff member who decided Kevin would never have to wonder where he belonged again.

That’s the part of this case we’ll remember most.

A retirement plan for Norman…with a sponsored adoption fee! 👴🐾💙

Norman joined us for this week’s visit to Empire Motors Of Lansing, and this sweet, silly old man was happy to take a little field trip, as long as nobody expected him to move too quickly.

We don’t know exactly how Norman ended up wandering around by himself. Okay, that’s not entirely true. After getting to know him, we’re pretty sure Norman simply decided he was going for a stroll. And when Norman decides he’s going somewhere…well, Norman goes. 😂

He likes other dogs and will even break out a few bouncy steps, and, if you’re lucky, an incredibly cute little hop,before deciding that’s quite enough excitement and wandering off to do his own thing.

We’re also pretty sure Norman is mostly deaf. Although there is still a small possibility that he hears us perfectly well and has simply decided we aren’t saying anything worth listening to. 🤷‍♀️

What we do know is that Norman is one of the happiest old guys around. His retirement wish list is pretty simple: a comfy home, people to love him, and a yard where he can safely wander around at his own pace. An easygoing canine friend would be just fine, too, but Norman is perfectly content doing his own thing.

And thanks to Empire Motors of Lansing, Norman’s adoption fee is completely sponsored! 🎉

One small disclaimer: Norman had a run-in with a skunk before arriving at the shelter. Based on everything we know about him, we have absolutely no reason to believe he learned anything from the experience. 🦨😂

If your home could use one very happy, slightly stubborn, possibly selectively deaf old man, Norman would love to spend his retirement with you. ❤️

Meet Gobble. 🦃

Gobble is 4 years old, ridiculously handsome, and would like to make one thing very clear:

People are his FAVORITE.

This sweet, affectionate boy is happiest when he’s spending time with his humans. Going for a walk? Gobble’s in. Hanging out together? Even better. Sitting around doing absolutely nothing as long as he gets to be next to you? Perfect. No notes.

And lately, Gobble has been discovering something else: other dogs can actually be pretty fun! He’s been making great progress learning how to play and continuing to build his confidence and social skills with canine friends. 🐶

Mostly, though, Gobble is just looking for someone he can adore on a full-time basis.
