Matagorda VFD operates fire stations in Matagorda and Selkirk. The MVFD service area is 230 square miles including 40 miles of Matagorda Beach. Additionally, Matagorda VFD serves as a mutual aid partner to all other fire departments in Matagorda county.

Fire is still burning off Cemetery Rd. The field is too wet for us to get to it safely. It should burn to a wet ditch before the levy & put itself out. We will be going back out several times this evening to check to make sure it's burning out like it should. However, if it changes directions or comes near any homes please call 911.

Second grass fire today. Please burn responsibly!
1. Do not start a fire & leave it unattended.
2. Call in any controlled burns & brush piles into the Sheriff's office so that we do not get called for false alarms.
3. Ensure you have a proper fire break mowed.
4. Make sure you only burn during daylight hours.
