Arcadian Chorale invites you to enjoy “We Sing the Sea!” a musical cruise exploring the joys of sailing, the power of the gales, and the ocean’s grandeur. The performance will take place on Saturday, June 6 at 8:00 PM at Temple Shaari Emeth, 400 Craig Road, Manalapan, NJ.
This concert will feature a mixture of vintage and contemporary depictions of the sea, including rarely heard 19 th c. settings, both calm and stormy, on favorite poems like “Sea Fever.” The ocean as metaphor for our voyage through life will be explored in Inscriptions on a Seashell by American composer Z. Randall Stroope and One Ship Sails East by Anthony Bernaducci. Ghostly encounters are made real in Susan LaBarr’s The Dream Ship, while ballads of mermaids and sinking ships will shake the shores.
Familiar folk tunes like Sloop John B and What Should We Do with a Drunken Sailor will bring the performance to a rousing close.
Special Guest Artist Cantor Wally Schachet-Briskin will offer select baritone solos and add guitar accompaniments to several of the traditional songs. Vocal soloists will include also Chorale members
Laura Itzkowitz and Leigh Nash. Masterful piano accompaniments will be provided by Ruslan Odintsov and guest artist Pamela Momyer.
In keeping with this program theme, Arcadian Chorale is sponsoring a Student Artwork Contest for Matawan High School and Middle School students, to be inspired by the sea. Winners will be announced during the concert Intermission, with artwork on display in the lobby. There will also be a 50/50 Raffle!!
Arcadian Chorale, an all-volunteer chorus now in its 32 nd year, has continued to distinguish itself through many performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the NJPAC, and fulfills its mission of bringing great music to the local community by performing at a wide range of local venues, including the Count Basie and Two River theaters.
