It was a busy Saturday morning in Matawan!

The day kicked off with the 4th Annual Main Street Donuts Shark 5K, where more than 700 runners lined up at the starting line and took off at 8:30 a.m. Under beautiful skies, participants enjoyed a great run and were rewarded at the finish line with a Shark 5K medal and, of course, a Main Street Donut. A special thank you to the Matawan Police Department and the Department of Public Works for their assistance throughout the event. Their efforts to safely close and reopen roads as runners moved through the course helped make the race a success.

Later in the morning, the Matawan Fresh Farmers & Makers Market opened for the season at 201 Broad Street. Opening day drew a great crowd eager to explore local crafters, fresh produce, a brewery, a winery, and more. The market will be open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from June through September, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, Lake Lefferts was buzzing with activity as residents and visitors took advantage of canoe and kayak rentals, enjoying the peaceful waters, scenic views, and beautiful weather. The Kayak and Canoe rentals are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am - 5 pm at an hourly rate of $15 per person.

The Revolution wasn’t just fought at Bunker Hill or Yorktown. It was fought right here — on Matawan soil.

Matawan was the site of several Revolutionary War skirmishes, and the conflict tore this very community apart. Neighbors chose sides. Families were divided — some fighting for the Patriot cause, others remaining loyal to the Crown. The tension, sacrifice, and courage of that era played out on these very streets.

On June 27, Hourihan Field (201 Broad St) transforms into a living Colonial Encampment from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM — bringing that history back to life. FREE for all ages!

🔨 Blacksmithing · 🏹 Primitive Archery · 🪓 Tomahawk Throwing

🇺🇸 Flintlock Rifle Demos · 💥 Scheduled Cannon Firings

🎯 Colonial Games for Kids · 📿 Trade Bead Demonstrations

Come experience the history your ancestors lived.

One Week Left to Order your Matawan Hometown Hero banner! June 17 deadline!

The countdown is on. With just two weeks remaining and only a limited number of banners still available, this is your final opportunity to recognize a veteran with Matawan roots through our Hometown Hero Banner Program.

These banners proudly line our streets this year through Veterans Day, and will be on display each Memorial Day – Veterans Day. They serve as a visible reminder of the brave men and women with roots in Matawan who answered our nation's call to serve. It's a meaningful tribute that allows their service and sacrifice to be celebrated by the entire community, and because the banners are rehung annually, it's a lasting honor that continues year after year.

Your honoree does not need to currently live in Matawan; they simply need to have roots in our Borough.

Banner Program Details:
• Limited banners remain available
• $145 includes double-sided banner printing and mounting hardware
• Deadline: June 17, this will be the absolute final opportunity to participate
• Reserve your banner here: https://app.seemylegacy.com/community/2738

Help us ensure that Matawan's heroes are recognized, remembered, and celebrated for generations to come. 🇺🇸
