Over the weekend, members of the Matawan Fire Department had the opportunity to participate in an acquired structure drill hosted by the Morganville Fire Department. With the building scheduled for demolition, we gained invaluable hands-on experience in real-world fireground scenarios—without live fire. This training allowed us to practice essential skills such as forcing doors, breaching windows, and breaking through walls—critical techniques for rescuing victims and ensuring firefighter safety in emergency situations. We appreciate the invitation and the opportunity to enhance our preparedness.

The Matawan Fire Department, in partnership with the Matawan Fire Prevention Bureau, is launching a new fire safety program to address the rising dangers of lithium-ion battery fires. These fires pose significant hazards to firefighters and residents due to their rapid spread and toxic fumes. To enhance safety, residents with electric vehicles are encouraged to place a free emergency emblem on their garage exterior, signaling the presence of lithium-ion batteries. This initiative aims to improve emergency response and protect both first responders and the community. For more information, contact Fire Official Jose Pujols at

Today, members of the Matawan Fire Department and beyond trained and recertified in ice water rescue. This is a very low-frequency call but carries a very high risk. With that being said, the Matawan Fire Department reminds you…

🚨 Stay Off the Ice! Stay Safe! 🚨

As temperatures rise , frozen lakes and ponds may still look tempting for walking, skating, or playing—but they can be extremely dangerous!

Even if the ice looks solid, it may not be strong enough to support your weight. Ice thickness can vary due to temperature changes, currents, and hidden weak spots. Every year, people fall through thin ice, putting their lives at risk and endangering the firefighters and rescue teams who respond.

What You Need to Know:
✅ Ice is never 100% safe. Appearances can be deceiving.
✅ Cold water is deadly. Falling through ice can lead to hypothermia in minutes.
✅ Once you go under you may not find your way back up.

Stay Safe:
❌ Never walk or play on frozen lakes or ponds.
❌ Keep pets away from ice-covered water.
❌ If someone falls through, call 911 immediately—do NOT attempt a rescue yourself.

Let’s prevent tragedies before they happen. Stay off the ice and stay safe!

Did you see us today at Ravine Drive School? Today, we received a call for a fire alarm at our local school. The school was promptly evacuated, and upon the arrival of the chiefs, it was reported that there was nothing evident. As crews began to arrive and clear the building , it was determined that the alarm was set off accidentally. At no point were any of the students or faculty in any danger. Special thanks to the Matawan Fire Police for their assistance with traffic control and the Matawan Police Department for keeping the students safe. **INTERESTED IN JOINING THE MATAWAN FIRE DEPARTMENT??**

At approximately 8:44 p.m., the Matawan Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire in the area of 845 State Route 34. Chief 2968 arrived and reported a working brush fire. Engine 2975, 2978, Ladder 2990, and New Jersey Forest Fire Service B25 responded and extinguished the fire. State Route 34 was temporarily closed with the assistance of the Matawan Police Department. At no time were any lives or structures threatened.

At 1:20 AM on 10/25/24, the Matawan Fire Department was dispatched to Gravely Brook Park for a brush fire reported by the on-duty Sergeant. Upon arrival, the fire chiefs determined that the easiest way to extinguish the fire would be with the help of Morganville Fire Department’s side-by-side. Meanwhile, as Matawan engines arrived, their crews trekked into the woods with water cans and rakes to ensure the fire didn’t spread. The fire was put out shortly after, contained to a small area. The Matawan Fire Department reminds you to only have fires in controlled fireplaces.

At approximately 7:41 PM on 10/24/24, the Matawan Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Danemar Drive. Upon the arrival of Chief 2966, a working fire was transmitted, bringing in our box alarm assignment. Quick work was made of the fire by first arriving Matawan units, keeping the fire to the exterior of the structure. Crews proceeded to check the attic space for extension and hot spots. Units operated for about two hours before clearing. We thank all of our mutual aid companies for their assistance.
