At 04:02 hours on 11/06/25, Box 2901 was transmitted for a reported structure fire on Main Street in the Borough of Matawan.

Chief 29 arrived within minutes and confirmed a working fire with flames from the A/B corner of the second floor.

Engine 2978 and ladder 2990 arrived shortly afterward, stretched an attack line, and advanced inside. Their crews made a quick interior push and knocked down the fire before it could gain any more ground.

10/18/25 - Auto Aid 6301 - 20:36 hours

The Matawan Fire Department was requested into Aberdeen for an active commercial fire. Upon the arrival of Engine 2978 and Truck 2990, two lines were stretched to the interior and the roof of the structure. Crews quickly located the fire on the roof and extinguished it. The fire was placed under control and subsequently overhauled. Great work by all involved.

Yesterday, members of the Matawan Fire Department visited Ravine Drive Elementary School for their annual Color Run! After the students completed the run, Engine 2978 was on hand to cool things down with a fun rinse-off. We were proud to be part of the event and look forward to joining the fun again next year!

Smoke Detectors Save Lives!

At 03:00 hours this morning, the Matawan Fire Department was dispatched to a porch fire in the area of Main Street and Church Street. Upon Chief 2966’s arrival, he reported a working porch fire. Engine 2978 went in service shortly after. Upon their arrival, they took the first-due engine assignment, stretching their line to the Bravo side of the structure and quickly knocking down the fire, holding it to the porch.

The incident was wrapped up in an hour without further issue.

The Matawan Fire Department would like to remind everyone: smoke detectors save lives!
Thanks to the smoke from this fire triggering the residents’ smoke alarms, they were woken up and able to safely evacuated the structure.

We thank our auto-aid partners from Aberdeen and Cliffwood Fire Departments as well as the Matawan Aberdeen first aid squad for their support!

Stay safe,
check your smoke detectors!
Test them monthly
If battery powered change them twice a year!

The Matawan Fire Department is proud to recognize and congratulate our two newest firefighters, Matt Burgos and Chris Fisler. After months of dedication, rigorous training, and hard work, both Matt and Chris have successfully completed and passed their Firefighter I exams. This significant achievement marks the completion of the first phase of their formal fire academy training.

As they move forward, Matt and Chris will now transition into the next phase—Firefighter II—where they will continue to expand their knowledge, refine their skills, and prepare to take on even greater responsibilities within the department and the community.

We invite you to take a moment to look through some of the photos from their “Putting It All Together” day, a practical, hands-on culmination of their Firefighter I training that brought together all they’ve learned so far. It’s a proud moment not just for them, but for all of us here at Matawan Fire Department.

Over the weekend, members of the Matawan Fire Department had the opportunity to participate in an acquired structure drill hosted by the Morganville Fire Department. With the building scheduled for demolition, we gained invaluable hands-on experience in real-world fireground scenarios—without live fire. This training allowed us to practice essential skills such as forcing doors, breaching windows, and breaking through walls—critical techniques for rescuing victims and ensuring firefighter safety in emergency situations. We appreciate the invitation and the opportunity to enhance our preparedness.

The Matawan Fire Department, in partnership with the Matawan Fire Prevention Bureau, is launching a new fire safety program to address the rising dangers of lithium-ion battery fires. These fires pose significant hazards to firefighters and residents due to their rapid spread and toxic fumes. To enhance safety, residents with electric vehicles are encouraged to place a free emergency emblem on their garage exterior, signaling the presence of lithium-ion batteries. This initiative aims to improve emergency response and protect both first responders and the community. For more information, contact Fire Official Jose Pujols at
