Matewan Volunteer Fire Department Station 300 members Erica Sipple and Sharon Mulcahy spent their Saturday morning learning and updating their skills and equipment by becoming certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED.

Chief Gary Sipple, Assistant Chief Blake Sipple, and Fireman Chris Mullins also attended the training.

Matewan Fire Department would like to thank the Mingo County Commission and the Mingo County Fire Association for providing the funding for the training, equipment, and supplies that help us better serve our communities.

ELEVATED FIRE DANGER

With fire danger at elevated levels in our area, we want to remind everyone that burning within your permitted hours does NOT protect you from liability.

If you choose to burn and it results in a wildfire, YOU WILL BE CITED. Period.

The conditions right now are dangerous. Dry air, low humidity, and wind can turn a small, seemingly controlled burn into a devastating wildfire in minutes.
Please think twice before striking that match. The safety of our forests, homes, and community is worth more than clearing a brush pile.

When in doubt, DON’T BURN.

Share this post to spread the word. Let’s protect Mingo County together.
