Global literacy connections create local impact! 🌍

Today marks the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day, first proclaimed by UNESCO in 1966 to advocate for literacy as a fundamental human right across the globe. Six decades later, building strong readers right here in Sacramento County continues to contribute to a worldwide movement that lifts communities and empowers future generations.

Through initiatives like Sacramento County READS, SCOE brings evidence-based reading instruction into local classrooms, turning this global right into everyday action for our students. Over Labor Day weekend, SCOE joined forces with the Sacramento Literacy Foundation at the annual Chalk It Up! festival in Midtown Sacramento, engaging with the community to promote youth literacy and celebrate the power of reading.

We’re out and about today with the community in Fremont Park at the Chalk it Up event with our partners from the Sacramento Literacy Foundation. We’re both bringing greater aware of the importance of literacy and the arts. Helping to spread the word so all students become proficient readers. Your Path to a Bilingual Credential Starts Here!

Are you a credentialed teacher in California ready to expand your reach and support bilingual learners? Multilingual classrooms need leaders like you.

The Sacramento County Office of Education Bilingual Authorization Program prepares educators to teach in dual-language and bilingual settings with a focus on Spanish-English instruction.

Program Highlights:

♦️Short & Focused: 8 units completed from February to May.
♦️Flexible Format: Zoom classes hosted on Saturdays (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM).
♦️Affordable: $3,000 total cost for credentialed teachers.
♦️Gain hands-on experience.

Key Prerequisites: Valid CA Teaching Credential (or current enrollment in the SCOE Intern Program) + passing score on CSET Spanish Subtest III.
