To the brave men and women who stood up for freedom, who answered the call, and fought for our nation. To those who paid the ultimate price, and never came home...

To the mothers and fathers who raised a hero, the sons and daughters who have only memories, and the wives and husbands who bear the void with pride. To all who’ve lost a soldier they love...

We remember you, we salute you, and we honor you today.

Our freedom wasn’t free, thank you. 🇺🇸

During EMS Week, we’re recognizing the next generation of EMS professionals preparing to serve our communities.

This week, recruits from the Metro Fire Metro Medic Program (MMP) Academy 26-1 trained along the river at El Manto Park, running hands-on EMS scenarios designed to prepare them for the realities of the job.

These future Metro Fire EMTs and paramedics graduate next week and will soon begin serving the community- continuing the tradition of compassion, professionalism, and lifesaving care that EMS providers deliver every day. 🚑🔥

When Dave suffered sudden cardiac arrest while performing on stage, bystanders immediately jumped into action — calling 911, starting CPR, and retrieving an AED before first responders arrived.

Because of their fast actions, Dave is still here today.

This is Dave’s story. ❤️

Today at Station 105, the Sacramento Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution presented Heroism Medals to Paramedic Doughty and EMT Slivinskiy for their extraordinary actions during a helicopter crash response on October 6, 2025.

The Sons of the American Revolution is a national organization dedicated to preserving American history, patriotism, and honoring those who demonstrate service and commitment to their communities. Today, they recognized two Metro Fire members whose actions exemplified those values under some of the most challenging circumstances imaginable.

Dispatched Code 3 to a helicopter crash on the freeway, the crew of M6105 navigated against traffic on the 59th Street Bridge to gain rapid access to the scene, arriving to find a downed aircraft blocking all lanes and a critically injured patient trapped beneath the helicopter.

Working alongside crews from the City of Sacramento Fire Department, they quickly assumed patient care and initiated rapid transport to UC Davis Medical Center. During transport, the crew identified serious injuries and signs of inadequate oxygenation, immediately intervening while remaining calm, focused, and continuously monitoring the patient throughout the incident.

Their composure, teamwork, clinical skill, and unwavering commitment to patient care reflect the highest standards of the fire service.

Well done Paramedic Doughty and EMT Slivinskiy on this well-deserved recognition.

One moment changed everything.

Misha woke up to his wife, Hanna, in distress— and within seconds, she took her last breaths.

There was no time to think. No time to hesitate. He called out to his 12-year-old son to dial 911… and immediately started CPR.

On the phone with dispatch, guided through every step, Misha kept going— compression after compression— fighting for her life.

Metro Fire crews arrived and took over care, continuing advanced life support. Hanna was shocked multiple times on the way to the hospital…

…and because of those first critical minutes, her heart started beating again. She survived.

This is the power of CPR.
This is why every second matters.
This is why the Citizen Responders Project exists.

Because before we arrive… you are the first responder.

❤️ Learn CPR. You could save someone you love.
