Today, we pause to remember.

Twenty-four years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation changed forever. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost in a senseless act of terror—including 343 brave firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and 8 EMS personnel who ran toward danger without hesitation.

We remember them not only for their sacrifice but for their courage, their dedication, and their unwavering commitment to duty. They climbed the stairs of the Twin Towers knowing the risks. They gave everything so that others might live.

As firefighters, we carry their legacy every day—in our hearts, in our service, and in the way we answer the call. We honor them by training harder, serving stronger, and never forgetting why we wear this uniform.

To the families who lost loved ones, we stand with you. To our brothers and sisters in the FDNY, and across the nation, we salute you. And to all who remember where they were that morning, may we find strength in unity, purpose in remembrance, and hope in the resilience of the human spirit.

We will never forget.
343. Always in our hearts.

Grant County Fire District 8 is heartbroken by the tragic and senseless violence that claimed the lives of brave firefighters in Idaho this weekend. We extend our deepest sympathy to Kootenai County Fire & Rescue, the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, the wider Idaho community, and—above all—the families and loved ones left to carry this heavy loss.

To every family member, friend, and partner agency affected: the entire fire‑service brotherhood stands with you. We share your grief, and we honor the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who ran toward danger to protect others. May their legacy give you strength, and may the outpouring of support surrounding you bring comfort in the difficult days ahead.

Please know that you remain close in our thoughts and prayers. We stand united with you today and always.
