🚨 OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS TO STEP UP

https://youtu.be/Req0PVd7zrA?si=IeRo0GzqlKECj6HL

This is heartbreaking—and it is happening right here in Van Buren County.

The Domestic Violence Coalition has lost critical federal funding and is now facing the possibility of closing its doors by March if replacement funding cannot be found.

Last year alone, the Coalition served 439 new clients, helped with nearly 300 personal protection orders, and its volunteers contributed more than 10,000 hours of service. These aren't abstract numbers. These are our neighbors, friends, coworkers, families, and children.

The Coalition provides advocacy, safety planning, assistance with protection orders, court accompaniment, support groups, and connections to emergency resources for victims of domestic and sexual violence. When someone is trying to leave an abusive situation, having someone there to help navigate the legal system, make a safety plan, or simply walk beside them can make an enormous difference.

We cannot assume someone else will fill the gap. If you are able, please make a donation to the Domestic Violence Coalition and help keep these vital services available to people in our community.

🇺🇸 MICHIGAN VOTERS DESERVED TO DECIDE

The Michigan Board of State Canvassers failed to certify the “Secure MI Vote” citizen-voting petition for the November ballot yesterday after a 2–2 deadlock.

The initiative, backed by Americans for Citizen Voting–Michigan, collected more than 709,000 signatures—far above the 446,198 valid signatures required to qualify. However, Bureau of Elections staff determined that enough signatures could not be validated under their sampling process.

The proposal would have required proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote, strengthened voter ID requirements, and required the removal of individuals identified as noncitizens from Michigan voter rolls after an opportunity to respond.

The Board's 2–2 split means the initiative will not appear on the November ballot unless the courts intervene. Supporters have indicated they intend to challenge the decision.

Michigan voters collected hundreds of thousands of signatures because they believed this issue should be decided by the people—not stopped before voters ever have the opportunity to weigh in. The fight isn't over. 🇺🇸

Canvassers deadlocked on a proposal that would give Michigan one of the strictest proof-of-citizenship requirements in the country. Organizers say they will appeal the decision in court.

🇺🇸 A WIN FOR ELECTION INTEGRITY

The Supreme Court has cleared a major legal roadblock to President Trump’s effort to strengthen election integrity and bring greater accountability to mail-in voting.

In a 6–3 decision, the Court allowed the Trump administration to move forward with key parts of his election executive order, including efforts to verify voter eligibility and establish stronger safeguards for mail-in ballots. The Court found that the states challenging the order had moved too soon and had not demonstrated an actual injury from the President’s internal directives.

Importantly, the Court did not strike down Trump’s election reforms. Instead, it removed a lower-court barrier that was preventing the administration from even moving forward.

Today’s ruling is an important step toward greater election integrity, voter verification, and accountability in our elections.

President Trump promised to secure our elections—and he is continuing to fight to make that happen. 🇺🇸

The administration asked the court to clear the way for President Trump’s order that creates “state citizenship lists” and directs the Postal Service to decide who gets a mail-in ballot.
