Early morning MVA-

At approximately 3:40 AM Friday morning, the Mattituck Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Main Road and Bay Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews found a single vehicle had struck a utility pole cracking the pole in half. The single occupant of the car was able to self extricate from the vehicle and was evaluated by the Rescue Squad while the Crew from Heavy Rescue 2 secured the vehicle of any further potential dangers. The west bound lane was closed while waiting for PSEG to respond and secure the broken pole.

Quick knockdown of garage fire-

On Thursday morning April 2nd at around 715am the Mattituck Fire Department was activated for a signal 13 (structure fire) for reported smoke from a garage on New Suffolk Avenue.

First arriving unit of Southold Town Police advised confirmed smoke from the windows and had active fire inside. A short time later, first due Engine 3 arrived on scene and a crew stretched an attack line and went right to work quickly getting water on the fire and knocking the fire down while another crew was searching the apartment upstairs confirming nobody was inside and there was no extension to the upper floors. Second due Engine 6 arrived on scene and stood by at the hydrant ready to supply a positive water source. Fire police had the road shut down in both directions for the duration of operations. MFD Rescue squad stood by on scene for fire fighter rehab.

Crews were on scene for approximately 1 hour before going back in service turning the scene over to the Southold Town Fire Marshal.

No injuries were reported and operations were under the command of Engine Co. Captain Jacob Kupecki and Truck Co. Captain Tom McCaffery.

Yesterday the Mattituck Fire Department was activated for a mutual aid to Riverhead for a barn fire on Sound Avenue.

Barn Fire – Sound Avenue

Earlier this afternoon, the Riverhead Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a farm on Sound Avenue. Upon arrival, crews were met with a heavily involved barn fire and immediately went to work.

Due to fire conditions and challenging wind, a defensive operation was established. Firefighters worked to contain the fire and prevent further extension, while also assisting with the removal of animals from the structure. The fire was brought under control after an extended operation.

Mutual aid departments assisted with manpower and water supply operations, including:

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Aidan Webb on successfully completing his probationary period with the Mattituck Fire Department.

At our department meeting Wednesday night, Aidan was proudly presented with his black helmet, signifying his transition from probationary member to full firefighter. This is a significant milestone that reflects his hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving our community.

In addition, Aidan was honored as our 2025 Probationary Member of the Year. Throughout his probation, he has shown outstanding motivation, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and help wherever needed. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, and this recognition is well deserved.

We ask all residents to please stay home and off the roads unless absolutely necessary so snowplows can continue to keep the roads clear and safe.

MFD responds to Car vs house-

On Monday night around 745pm during our weekly Monday night training at HQ, the Mattituck Fire Department was activated for a mva reported car into a house on Sound Ave.

Upon arrival, Chief Bobby Haas reported to incoming units there was a single car that left the road and struck the house with significant structural damage to the house and that the driver self extricated.

Within minutes of activation Ambulance 8-6-17 First Responder 8-6-80 and Heavy Rescue 8-6-2 arrived on scene and EMS personal evaluated the driver while the crew from 8-6-2 secured the vehicle and assessed the damages to the structure. A short time later Engine 8-6-6 arrived on scene and stretched a booster line as a precautionary measure.

Due to the severity of the damage to the structure the Southold Town Fire Marshal and Southold Town building inspector was requested to the scene.

Crews were on scene for about 40 minutes and the scene was turned over to the town Fire Marshal. Operations were under the command of Chief Bobby Haas and Asst. Chief Steve Ficner.

Mva with rollover-

Sunday evening at around 930pm the Mattituck Fire Department was activated for a MVA with rollover in the area of Harbes Farm on Sound Ave.

First arriving fire units stated a single car rolled over on its roof and the single passenger was able to self extricate. Fire police units and Riverhead Police shut down traffic in both directions while fire and ems crews operated.

Heay Rescue 8-6-2 and Ambulance 8-6-17 responded, crews secured the vehicle and checked for any fluids leaking and removed a small tree that was blocking the road. Mattituck Rescue Squad treated and transported the driver with minor injuries.

The Jamesport Fire Department was notified and responded as well as the accident was just into their district
