Scott Harris for Mattoon City Commissioner

Scott Harris for Mattoon City Commissioner I am seeking your vote for Mattoon City Commissioner on April 6, 2021. I was born and raised in Lake County, Indiana.

My name is Scott Harris and I am seeking your vote for Mattoon City Commissioner on April 6, 2021. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Indiana State University, I spent six years teaching middle school and high school in two separate Indiana school districts. In 2013, I married my wife, Kallie, and relocated to Mattoon. I quickly grew to enjoy and appreciate this commun

ity and its people. In 2016, I completed my Master of Business Administration at EIU with a concentration in applied management. During my time in the MBA program I had the opportunity to act as a consultant for the Coles County Health Department. Presently, my wife and I live and work in Mattoon and have three daughters – ages 9, 4, and 1. I believe in building a thriving community that businesses and families alike are proud to call home. At the forefront of any town should be an administration that encourages and values public safety, entrepreneurship, commercial expansion, and recreational opportunities. We should welcome new businesses and support our existing businesses, many of which are family owned. Police and fire departments, as well as access to other emergency services should be a priority. I believe in taking a fiscally responsible, long-term approach to our police and fire departments, but not at the expense of public safety. There is also a need for greater local economic growth, but I know that Mattoon has many qualities to attract businesses and jobs to the area. We can also take advantage of and build upon our local festivals and events to increase tourism. My family and I are invested in Mattoon and I believe it can be an even better community in the future.

I'm incredibly happy to see the Mattoon City Council reinstate the fire department ambulance. Unfortunately, many dollars were wasted in legal fees, and many residents were not given the necessary care needed for several years. Let's continue to support our fire, police, and public works departments.
