The Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System (LUCAS) device provides mechanical chest compressions to patients in cardiac arrest. It is mostly used in emergency medicine as an alternative to manual cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) because it provides consistent compressions at a fixed rate eliminating the physical strain on the person performing CPR. This frees up providers to gain IV/IO access, administer medications, fluids and obtain airway access.

As we kick start CPR and AED awareness week, we would like to show you some of the equipment that aids our providers in giving every one of our patient's consistent quality care.
If you have ever met us on a call, you have seen us carrying in this LifePak 35. It has the ability to provide cardiac monitoring capabilities, obtain vitals signs and provide electrical shocks like an AED if needed.

We would like to share a special shoutout to Kwik Trip in Mauston and Wisconsin River Meats for their kind help in supporting our Employee Appreciation Dinner last night as part of our EMS Week Celebration!

Though our employees deserve appreciation for all they do every day, not just on a single day or a single week, it is nice to have a special period and a special meal to for us to show that appreciation and to give recognition to their dedication to the profession and to our community.

We have also received special gifts or treats from other community organizations and some of our partners, like the Mile Bluff Medical Center ER Staff, the local Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation Wardens, UW Health Med Flight, Gundersen AIR and Tabitha Lueneburg-INSURANCE AGENT and we thank them all for their support and encouragement!

As a reminder, our next event is the Culver's Share Night, THURSDAY the 21st, at 5PM to 8PM. Come have a great Butter Burger and share some laughs and a good time with our crews!

Happy EMS Week to all of our providers and all EMS Providers!

This year’s theme is ”Improving Outcomes, Together” which perfectly sums up what EMS as a whole is. We work hand in hand with our partnering public safety agencies, community partners, and the public, to ultimately improve patient outcomes when time matters most.

Don’t forget you can stop by tomorrow, 3PM-7PM at our Mauston Station or at our Culver’s Share night on Thursday starting at 5PM to 8PM to show your appreciation towards our staff!

Neighbors helping neighbors.
Yesterday all of our ambulances were out on calls for service and we relied on our neighbors, Elroy Area Ambulance WI to come assist us.

We occasionally assist them with Intercepts, where our paramedics meet them on a scene and provide advanced skills, and occasionally they come and help take calls for service when we are busy. Yesterday the patient needed both advanced skills and the transport assistance of Elroy, so one of our Deputy Chiefs, who was on scene first, rode in with the Elroy crew, working side by side to provide excellent care when it mattered! We thank Elroy for always being there and being a great partner!
