Make sure you go, if you can, and donate blood. Impactlife is the blood bank that Mauston Ambulance also utilizes as part of our blood program, so the blood you donate today could potentially be used to save one of your loved ones.

๐Ÿš‘ Today, our crews participated in some driver training!๐Ÿšจ

All employees participate in refresher training every two years, and new employees who have not had any training recently also go through the course. We are lucky enough to have a great relationship with Mauston School District, who lets us use their large parking lot to safely practice our driving skills!

We currently train all of our employees using CEVO V (Coaching Emergency Vehicle Operators), a nationally recognized program, that provides both an in-depth classroom portion with written exam and a skills test.

Today, Mauston Area Ambulance makes another jump forward!

Today, we picked up our first units of Packed Red Blood Cells and Liquid Plasma. Together, these items can help a large population of our community during severe traumatic events. We join our southern friends, Baraboo Fire and EMS, Dells-Delton EMS, and Reedsburg Area Ambulance, as some of the few truly rural ambulance services that have this capability.

This has been a culmination of almost two years of work; between clinical research, guideline updates, training programs, administrative function updates, fundraising, grant writing, product purchasing, etc. We couldn't have been able to do this without community donations and grants, like Brunner Manufacturing, Oakdale Credit Union, DEC-USA Inc, Royal Bank, Kwik Trip, Oakdale Electric (Operation Round-up).

This venture never ends though, we will continue to seek donations to help offset costs for this program, as reimbursement is limited and billing to patients for this product is not really available for most of our patients (Medicare-eligible). We will also perform continuous quality assurance to ensure we are providing the best care to our community without wasting precious resources or burdening our service/the community unnecessarily.

Today we remember D-Day, June 6, 1944โ€”the day Allied forces launched the largest seaborne invasion in history, beginning the liberation of Western Europe during World War II. We honor the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who served and those who never came home.

Teamwork makes all things possible. This also shows the importance of bystander training in stop the bleed and CPR can really make a difference!

Though this patient didnโ€™t require CPR, with it being National CPR and AED Awareness Week, it is important to note that sometimes, it takes responders time to get to you and your loved ones, when time matters, starting compressions and using public access AEDs can save lives or even help ensure a person has a better chance once we arrive on scene.

Gundersen Air extends its sincerest appreciation to Mauston Ambulance, Volk Field Fire Department, and a committed Good Samaritan, honoring them with Clinical Excellence Challenge coins for their remarkable teamwork in February, highlighting the community's unrelenting commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

National CPR and AED Awareness Week takes place annually from June 1 to June 7. The week is dedicated to highlighting how immediate bystander CPR and early AED use can double or triple a person's chance of surviving sudden cardiac arrest.
-Call & Push: If you encounter someone who has collapsed and is unresponsive, call 9-1-1 immediately and start chest compressions.
-Technique: Place your hands in the center of their chest and push hard and fast 100 to120 compressions per minute).
-Shock: If an automated external defibrillator (AED) is nearby, turn it on and follow its spoken voice prompts.
How can you get involved?
Learn Hands-Only CPR: You can take 90 seconds to watch the American Heart Association Hands-Only CPR Video to learn the basics.
Find a Local Class: To get fully certified in CPR and AED use, call us. We can teach you a certified class.

The Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System (LUCAS) device provides mechanical chest compressions to patients in cardiac arrest. It is mostly used in emergency medicine as an alternative to manual cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) because it provides consistent compressions at a fixed rate eliminating the physical strain on the person performing CPR. This frees up providers to gain IV/IO access, administer medications, fluids and obtain airway access.
