Friday 5 – Your Friday City Brief | September 4, 2026

Here are five things to know as we head into Labor Day weekend!

1. 🍂 It’s Here! The Fall Activity & Living Guide
Fall fun starts here! The Fall Activity & Living Guide is now available. Explore special events, recreation programs, sports, classes, and activities happening in Mayfield Heights this season.

Check out the guide and start planning your fall:

2. 💍 Happily Ever After
There was a little extra excitement at City Hall today as Mayor Diane Snider performed her very first marriage ceremony! It was a special milestone for the Mayor and, most importantly, a joyful new beginning for newlyweds Dorothy Bright and Herbert Hood. Please join us in congratulating Dorothy and Herbert and wishing them a lifetime of love, laughter, and happiness together!

3. Labor Day Reminders!
City offices will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day, a national holiday recognizing the contributions and achievements of American workers.

Garbage & Recycling Reminder: Collection will be delayed one day during the week of September 7–11. Please place containers out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before your pickup day.

4. 🚌 School Is in Full Swing – Please Drive with Care!
With students back in school, our streets are once again busy with school buses, bus stops, crosswalks, walkers, and bicyclists. Please slow down, stay alert, and allow extra time—especially during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.

Know the School Bus Safety Laws:
🟡 Flashing Amber Lights: When a school bus activates its amber/yellow lights, it is preparing to stop. Drivers are not yet required to stop but should slow down and prepare to stop.

🔴 Flashing Red Lights & Stop Arm: Once the bus stops, the red lights begin flashing and the stop arm extends. Drivers required by law to stop must remain at least 10 feet from the bus until the bus begins moving again or the driver signals traffic to proceed.

On roads with fewer than four lanes: Traffic approaching from both directions must stop.

On roads with four or more lanes: Only traffic traveling in the same direction as the school bus must stop.

Never attempt to pass a stopped school bus when you are required to stop, and watch carefully for children crossing the street. Please do your part to keep our kids safe.

Fabrizi is completing pavement removal on Marnell Avenue between Byron Drive and Lander Road, the final segment of roadway pavement removal for this project.

Beginning Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Fabrizi will temporarily stage trucks in the curb lane of southbound Lander Road, south of the Marnell Avenue intersection. This temporary work zone is necessary because the required trucks cannot be staged safely within the active work area on Marnell Avenue. The staging area will allow Fabrizi to remove and haul the existing pavement more efficiently.

Fabrizi will maintain appropriate traffic control to guide motorists safely through the area. The temporary work zone will be in effect only during active work hours, and the curb lane will reopen at the end of each workday.
