Officers with the Mayfield Police Department responded to a collision involving injury in the 1200 Block of West Broadway on Thursday around 1:30pm.

Upon arrival, a vehicle operated by 74-year-old Joyce Hayden of Fancy Farm, was turned over onto its passenger side with severe damage. Hayden had to be extricated from the vehicle by Mayfield-Graves Fire/EMS, and was transported to Western Baptist Hospital.

Through investigation, it was determined that Hayden was traveling westbound, yet crossed into the eastbound lane, where 66-year-old Oscar Reeves of Mayfield tried to avoid the collision, but Hayden collided with the trailer Reeves was pulling. Hayden's vehicle then flipped over onto the passenger side, and came to rest in the eastbound lane. A vehicle operated by 52-year-old Kelly Brown of Mayfield was struck by the rear bumper of Reeves' vehicle which had come detached during the collision. It is unknown at this time what caused Hayden to cross into the opposing lane of travel. No one else involved reported any injuries from the collision.

MPD hosts a ceremony each year during National Police Memorial Week. The Department is honored to share this experience with the families of Officers Hartley Gillum, Charles Kirksey Todd, and Terry Lee Sanders, whom, in the spirit of service above self, gave their lives while in the line of duty.”

Seen in the pictures are the memorial wreaths that were placed yesterday at the headstones of the three fallen Officers.
