National CPR & AED Awareness Week!

This week serves as an important reminder of the impact that CPR and AED knowledge can have during a cardiac emergency.

According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR can double or even triple a person's chance of survival. Knowing how to recognize an emergency, call 911, begin CPR, and use an AED can help save lives when every second matters.

Take time this week to learn about CPR and AEDs, refresh your skills if you're already trained, and encourage others to do the same.

Awareness. Preparedness. Action.

Safe Sleep Starts with a Safe Sleep Space!

Did you know? The safest place for a baby to sleep is on a firm, flat mattress with nothing else in the crib.

-No pillows
-No blankets
-No stuffed animals or toys
-No crib bumpers

Keeping the sleep area clear helps reduce the risk of sleep related infant deaths and creates a safer environment for your baby.

Remember: Alone. On their Back. In a Crib. Every sleep, every nap, every night.

Safe sleep saves lives.

Car seat safety is one of the most important things we can do as parents. Here's what you need to know:
-Keep babies in a rear facing seat until age 2 or more
-Move to a forward facing seat with a top tether after they outgrow rear facing
-Always use the top tether, it greatly reduces forward motion in a crash
-Check the expiration date on your car seat label
-Only buy a used car seat if you know its full crash history. Never buy from a stranger or online

Road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths for children in the U.S., but correctly used car seats can reduce the risk of death by up to 71%! A few minutes to double check that seat could make all the difference.

Visit safekids.org for more car seat safety tips!
