At approximately 11:00 P.M. on September 21, 2026, a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Graves County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford SUV that committed a traffic violation on KY 303.

During the investigation, a vehicle search was conducted. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Tyea M. Newsome, 48 of Graves County. The search resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Newsome was placed under arrest and transported to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center and later lodged at an out-of-county detention facility.

Newsome was charged with the following:
• Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, Methamphetamine.
• DUI 1st Offense
• Traffic infractions

In May 2023, she was sentenced to 5 years of probation for 2nd Offense Possession of Methamphetamine out of Fulton County Circuit Court.

Re: Missing Person

Kentucky State Police at Mayfield are searching for a missing Mayfield woman.

Last Wednesday, KSP received a call from a family member who expressed concern for 80-year-old Ethelene Moss.

Moss is a black woman, standing approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 165 pounds.

Troopers were told that the family member has not been able to make contact with Moss since August 18th.

Investigators have attempted to locate Moss at her last known residence on South 2nd Street in Mayfield but have been unable to make contact with her.

Family members believe she may be staying at a hotel in the area.

Anyone who has information or knows the whereabouts of Ethelene Moss is asked to contact Kentucky State Police at Mayfield.

At approximately 11:50 AM on September 15, 2026, Graves County Sheriff’s Deputies and Mayfield-Graves County EMS were dispatched to the intersection of the Kentucky 80 East Bypass and US 45 South for a two-vehicle injury collision.

During the investigation it was determined Cynthia Holland, 56 years old of Mayfield, was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a small single axle trailer hauling a lawn mower, traveling East on Kentucky 80. As Ms. Holland entered the intersection, a 2020 International box truck, turned in front of Ms. Holland. The box truck was operated by Tyler Trevathan, 37 years old of Benton. Ms. Holland’s vehicle stuck the rear wheels of Mr. Trevathan’s vehicle causing it to spin.

Ms. Holland was transported from the scene by Mayfield-Graves County EMS to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Mayfield-Graves County EMS, and the Mayfield/Graves County Fire & Rescue Squad.

UPDATE: September 21, 2026

An arrest has been made concerning these incidents. A 15 year old has been charged with felony Criminal Mischief and Wanton Endangerment. The juvenile was taken into custody at around 1PM Monday 09-21-26.

Re: Widespread Criminal Mischief across portions of Graves County this past weekend

Just after 3 AM Sunday morning Sept. 13, a resident of Rozzell Church Road reported a vehicle had run his mailbox down destroying it. As sheriff's deputies arrived in the area, they found widespread mailbox damage there, as well as in areas of Old Dublin Road, New Dublin Road (Ky Hwy 384), Ky Hwy 1748, and other areas.

The damage appeared to be intentional. Parts of the pickup truck that struck the mailboxes were located and seized, including grille parts, paint transfers, and headlamp parts.

A subsequent investigation led to surveillance video being obtained of the suspect vehicle. Vehicle parts and video identified the vehicle as being a 2008 Dodge Ram silver in color.

The investigation led to interviews with involved parties who identified the driver of the vehicle. On Monday Sept. 14, the suspect vehicle was located at a residence in southern Graves County on Kingston Road. The vehicle was impounded as evidence in the case. The vehicles owner refused to provide any information to detectives investigating the incident.

Additional criminal mischief was located as a result of interviews with involved parties which included road sign theft and damage in the areas of Kingston Road, Bard Road, and Lawrence Road.

"These senseless acts have caused financial pains and stress to the many homeowners who have had to deal with mailbox replacements. Luckily no accidents have been reported from intersections where stop signs were run over and knocked down."

Photos are attached of suspect vehicle that has been located and impounded, as well as a few of the mailbox damage.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about these crimes, are asked to contact the Graves County Sheriff's Office at (270) 247-4501. We along with the countless victims in this case would appreciate it.

On September, 12, at 12:36 AM, Deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle injury collision on I-69 southbound near mile marker 12.

The investigation determined the operator, Feliciano Perez Noe, 38, of Mexico, was traveling southbound on I-69 in a white 2023 Freightliner semi when he swerved off the roadway, traveling approximately 433 feet before the semi overturned onto its side.

Feliciano Perez Noe was airlifted to Vanderbilt for incapacitating injuries he sustained in the collision.

Deputies Bobby Turner and Andrew Prusaczyk were assisted at the scene by the Kentucky State Police, Mayfield/Graves County EMS, the Mayfield Fire Department and the Wingo Fire Department.

Re: Shooting incident near Symsonia.

This morning at approx. 8:20AM, reports of an altercation and gunshots being fired were called in from a mobile home park located off of Ky Hwy 534, on Toy Circle.

Sheriff's deputies and KSP Troopers arrived and determined that 39 year old Todd A. Hutson had assaulted two individuals, as well as firing a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun. One gunshot was fired near the victim's head.

Hutson had retreated into a nearby mobile home and refused commands to come out. Over an approximate two-hour standoff ensued. A felony arrest warrant was obtained for Hutson, and at approximately 10:13AM, sheriff's officers entered the mobile home to take Hutson into custody. Hutson again refused commands and attempted to flee. He was apprehended and taken into custody.

Re: Man pulls gun on Graves Co. Deputy Sheriff. (Caution)

Friday afternoon Sept 04 at approximately 5PM, Graves County Deputy Zach Smith went to a residence on Pritchett Road concerning the harassment of a female that had been reported. The suspect 38 year old Kyle D. Staples came to the door and initially gave a false name.

Once his true identity was confirmed, Deputy Smith learned that there was an active felony arrest warrant out of Fulton County Ky for his arrest.

Once Dep. Smith made Staples aware of the warrant, Staples stated that he was not going to jail and pulled what appeared to be a semi automatic handgun from his pocket.

A brief standoff ensued with Staples before he eventually threw the handgun to the ground and surrendered. Once Staples was taken into custody, the handgun was recovered and it was found to be a "BB Pistol."

Sheriff Jon Hayden and Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince soon thereafter arrived on scene. Staples told Sheriff Hayden that he was trying to get Dep. Smith to shoot him, but realized who Deputy Smith was from previous encounters, adding that Dep. Smith had always "treated him right", and that he didn't want to do that to him.

Staples was charged with Theft of Identity, Menacing, and Resisting Arrest. He was also arrested on a felony warrant out of Fulton County Kentucky.

Staples has previous convictions for 1st Degree Burglary, Theft of a Fi***rm, and Terroristic Threatening.

He was transported to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center and later to an out of county detention center.

"Deputy Smith exercised a lot of restraint during the incident and acted in a professional manner, which is a credit to his profession and character," Sheriff Hayden states.
