Maynard Water is currently tracking discoloration reports, and these reports have allowed us to identify the issue. Our team has reduced the source; however, a significant amount of discolored water is still moving throughout our system. To resolve this, we will continue to provide area specific hydrant flushing, as well as starting our Fall hydrant flushing early.

We would like to also inform all residents that the state reduced our drought condition from a Level 3 - Critical Drought to a Level 2 - significant drought. The Town has been monitoring local supplies and as August 26, 2026 has reduced the Water Restriction from a Level 3 - Ban to a level 2 - Restriction. Please be aware that this can change at any time, so we encourage you to continue to monitor for more information. You can visit our website for details on what is allowed.

The Maynard Select Board, at their meeting on February 3, 2026, approved the Use of Town Property Application for the second annual Maynard Country MusicFest (revision approved August 18, 2026). The event will take place on September 19, 2026, at Memorial Park. While the event itself is scheduled from 1:00-4:00pm, the full reservation of Memorial Park is from 9:30am-5:30pm, and residents should be aware that Summer Street (between Main and Nason Streets) will be closed from 11:00am-5:30pm. UPDATE: "Recycling drop-off days for unwanted trash carts or recycling carts will be held on September 12, October 10 and November 14 from 8 am to 12 noon at the 38 Winter Street DPW Facility. Carts must be empty and clean to be accepted.

Cart drop-off days coincide with our regularly scheduled Recycling Drop-Off Event Days. Cart drop offs will be free, while fees apply to other items dropped off for recycling.

All items, whether carts or other recyclables, will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis until dumpsters or loading areas are full.

Additional dates and times for trash sticker trades and cart drop-off events will be scheduled as needed."

We are finally in the home stretches of assembling over 800 carts and delivering them, so the first of our long-awaited sticker swap days are scheduled. Next week, we’ll share the dates for some cart drop off dates.

Did you wonder why the recycling cart and trash cart are holding hands in the photo, along with an orange overflow bag nearby? That’s to illustrate that recycling carts or orange bags need to be next to your stickered trash cart all day, even if your trash cart has been emptied or you have no trash that week. Without that dynamic duo or trio, your recycling or orange overflow bag will not be collected.

Here’s the reason why: Many folks in town are placing recycling carts curbside without being part of the Town of Maynard’s program. By placing your trash cart next to your recycling cart, the drivers know immediately that you are a registered participant. They also know to skip over lone recycle carts and to leave notes letting these residents know to register.

On August 20th the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) reported the presence of WNV positive mosquito samples in Maynard. The samples were taken on August 18th and several other communities in the Commonwealth also had positive mosquitos. DPH now has labelled Maynard’s WNV risk as “Moderate”

Although the health risks are low for most healthy individuals, DPH recommends residents take basic precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Those include the use of any insect repellant containing DEET and avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities at dawn and dusk. Residents can further avoid mosquitoes by reducing stagnant water on their property and ensuring all window screens are in good repair.

The Maynard Select Board invites you to a community celebration of Maynard's green spaces, conservation work, and the volunteers who work with our town staff to help Maynard thrive.

How to Participate?
Choose from a variety of walking, running, or biking routes that explore parks, trails, and natural areas throughout town. You can walk, run or bike in your time, or check in at the Farmer's Market on the morning of September 12th. There are scavenger hunts available for each trail to learn about wildlife, history, buildings and conservation. Then gather at Memorial Park for an afternoon of conversation, ice cream, music, and community celebration of volunteers and conservation in Maynard.

The Department of Public Works will be conducting overnight work to address vegetation management control in the Downtown area. Work will commence Wednesday, August 12th, starting at 10pm and lasting until 7am. Operations will create high levels of noise which will be scattered throughout Downtown during this process. Thank you for your cooperation.

Notice: Town Contractors will be testing backflow prevention devices at residential homes this weekend and continuing through August. These are devices that protect drinking water from contaminants that could flow back into the system. Not everyone has a backflow device and they are most commonly on irrigation systems at a residence.
